Started body prep at last, now all the wiring is finished.
Popped all the glass out today. Front screen put up a fight but came out eventually. Found this in the bottom corner, where it seems the rubber retains water. Easily ground out and repaired though fortunately.

Also found this beneath the rear side window. Still, not bad for 32 years I suppose.

Have been getting some more jobs done on the e21. Repairs to the screen surround are done and the deleted wiper hole welded up.

Needed some new front top mounts and opted for these from Comp Brake.

Also managed to snag a new front screen with a blue top tint and some NOS headlights. I figured new would be nicer to fit, to a freshly painted shell.

Currently, the doors and boot are off and we've made a start on the bodywork. There are no more repairs but we're determined to make the paintwork as close to perfect as we can. The wheel arches have had a fair bit of work to allow the wider wheel/tyre combination but without looking OTT. In fact, unless there was a stock car next to mine, you probably wouldn't notice too much difference. The next pics should show some real progress.
I also managed to get a 320is front lip from the States. We didn't get that model in Europe, so the lip is pretty rare/unusual. It just gives me another option, should the Ronal be too low with the ride height I'm after.

Well done looking forward to more updates
Hope to have something over the next few days.
I'm currently looking to find someone who can carry out live re-maps using the OE injection and ECU, so that we can get the best output from running with the Cat Cams, BBTB etc.
Anyone know BWChiptune?

I was thinking last nite gold goes very well with laguana seca blue, maybe put a dash of gold somewhere subtle?
New fan and thermo switch arrived. I was also considering waterless coolant, but it's bloody expensive.

I opted for a brushed finish instead of polished.

Body prep is well underway now and hopefully we'll be finished for the Pristine Bodyworks / Quest Motorsport open day next month.

Have been working towards getting the car finished this month. Lots of rubbing down and prep work for paint. Including underside of the bonnet and inside the boot etc.
One of the most tedious jobs has been the wiring. The old bullet type fuse box is in the bin, so we mounted a new blade type beneath the glovebox lid. We also wanted to hide as much of the wiring as possible, so the headlight and indicator wiring now runs through the chassis rail.
Inside the car, we opted to remove the OE seat brackets so that we can mount the Recaro as low in the car as possible. I've tried a few non e21 seats before and they always sit way too high. This time we're just going to run some bars between the sill and transmission tunnel, then we can mount the runners on those. The seats are a bit wider than stock e21 Recaros and super comfy. I had hoped to keep inertia belts but the cage is too tight to the B pillar. Instead we got some Safety Devices harnesses.

I also picked up some staggered banded steels. They're 8.5 and 9.5j x 16's and I just need to sort some decent rubber and paint them gold.

I'm also running ITB's from Jenvey in an effort to get a bit more from the M52 and Cat Camshafts. They should look and sound great too.
I know a couple of people have gone with the Dbilas kit, but I believe they retain the AFM and airbox, so that's always going to limit any gains. I plan to run standalone and have been looking at the options available. Right now it's between Omex and Vi-PEC i88. If anyone has any info and/or advice it would be much appreciated.

I also found some pics of an 02 in Laguna Seca blue, which hints at how my e21 should look.

I've been looking at the Jenvey throttle bodies, they look pretty good! Have you seen WOT Tech in America who have been developing / refining them? They've got a nice looking carbon airbox too for it, but they haven't got them for sale yet.

Funnily enough yes, I was having a look yesterday and mailed them for some info. I'm thinking of having an airbox made myself, although it'll be fibreglass not c/fibre.

In an effort to try and capitalise on the Cat Camshafts, BBTB and six branch exhaust manifold, I've ordered an ITB kit from Jenvey. I want to run them without the MAF though and have velocity stacks, like the ones Ben on e21.net has on his s54, so I'm trying to learn a bit about standalone ECU or, as a possibly cheaper alternative, see what can be achieved from running the stock ECU in Alpha N mode? I've been chatting with Dan the Man and he's confident that the stock ECU can be made to work. He put me in touch with Wayne @ Chipwizards so between us, I hope we can sort something. The inlet manifolds are just being made but should be here within a couple of weeks. The plan is to do some before and after dyno runs at Quest Motorsport. It might be useful to try them with and without the MAF also?

While I've been waiting on the ITB kit from www.jenvey.co.uk I have been looking at standalone ECU, so that we can map the engine and make the most of the parts fitted. After speaking with both Wayne @ Chipwizard and Paul Sheppard @ Circuit Motors, I opted for the DTA S60 Pro. I figured as both guys recommended it, it's probably ideally suited and that they're both experienced in using the software. As I know nothing about ECU mapping, I'm glad that I am able to trust their experience. All I need now, is to find someone to make a bespoke wiring loom. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

We've also replaced the cheaper fan with a larger, 14'' Kenlowe and new thermoswitch. The stock rad has already been replaced with a custom alloy item, but we also opted to use Evans Waterless coolant. You have to prepare the cooling system, by using a product they supply, to clear all traces of water and antifreeze. Once this has been done, you refill the system with their coolant. It offers protection from corrosion but also has a much higher boiling point than water. Not only does that mean the engine won't overheat, but it also means the cooling system isn't pressurised. We used the performance grade stuff, which doesn't boil till 180 degrees and offers antifreeze protection to -40 degrees.

The alloy rad was salvaged from my old car and cleaned up using an aqua-jet. I prefer the satin / brushed finish the process leaves. All that needs doing now, is altering the top outlet, so that we can run e36 silicon hoses.

Final metal work is finished on the arches and we should be going to paint very soon now.

Great work mate, might have a look at cat cams
Well all the wheel arch mods are finished now and the returns have been put on the arch lip to give some rigidity back to the wings. There is no fouling on the tyres now, even on full lock with the suspension wound right down. We started messing about with various front spoilers yesterday too, but it's still either the Ronal or the US spec 320is one that I prefer.

One of the toughest and longest jobs has been the wiring. We've deleted all but the crucial parts of the e36 engine bay loom now and have hidden nearly all of it from view. The ECU will also be hidden where the glove box used to live, with the lid now being a cover for access to the fuse box and ECU serial port. Also we'll be running the DTA S60 Pro eventually, we will put some miles on the engine using the stock system and single throttle body. We will get some 'before' dyno runs too, so we can see exactly what gains the Jenvey ITB's give us.

The newly rebuilt e12 LSD is back in and now runs a 3.45 CWP instead of the original 3.07, which was a little too tall.

We are finally getting close to the end now and the finished car is due to be in a couple of magazines this summer. The fun bit, of fitting all the parts I've been collecting for the past 18 months, can now begin.

Big box arrived yesterday.
Shiny shiny!

The quality of this kit is awesome. I know that Jenvey make absolutely everything ''in house'' and cast their own manifolds etc, and the finish is superb. Excuse the phone pics as I don't think they do justice.

Just sat on top of the OE system, to get an idea of how it'll look. There certainly aren't any obvious clearance issues and hopefully we can run some longer velocity stacks once installed?

The kit comes complete with a linkage kit and cable

Will be running DTA standalone management.

Initially, will be running the M50 inlet and single TB, doing some dyno runs and then installing the Jenvey kit, to measure gains.

Got anymore updates ? Looking forward to finished product, you wouldn't happen to know of any e21 PAS kits around? Or can an e30 setup be fitted?
Hope to update soon but currently in Barbados.
Try www.bmwe21.net/forum for pas kit. E30 stuff won't fit.
