I have a 316i chassis e30 and putting the m50 into it..
I've read about using e34 m5 mounts? but know people who have successfully swapped in m50's onto m20 and m42 rubbers..
(at least they have said so..)
just after your personal preferences as will get them ordered when I know whats needed :)
cheers

I went with AKG mounts as it will see plenty of abuse on track

Nope, 4th one down here - http://www.akgmotorsport.com/catalog/ca ... M50%20Swap

The only standard mounts ive had that work well without slopping about have been S38 from a 6 series, I got them from Pelican Parts in the US ages ago, not sure what the make is but theyve been on my track car and are now on the chromie.
Only had slight rubbing on the linkage a couple of times on the track car so fitted the AKG mounts.

If your tracking the car then fit the AKG's

E28 M5 mounts, not E34 M5.
The E28 M5 mounts (not M535i) are the same S38 mounts as Dan mentions for the 6 series and worked well on my S50 conversion.
They look like this....

Yeah same part number, I used two of the cylindrical mounts, left side of pic.
I think the mounts I used were Vaico brand.

Dont use the mount in the centre of the pic, they will do this eventually -

I think the cylindrical mount is the same as the E28 535i.

Dan, was that mount painted green in colour? Mine was painted grey and held up to the S50 no worries - I used another grey in a mates S50 that gets hill climbed and tracked without issues.
The different paint colours apparently indicate differing stiffness.

It was green yes, I had a pair of them on my first M50 conversion, did over 60k miles on them without problems, they seemed to be ok apart from some slight splitting on the exhaust side mount so they got fitted to the chromie with its first 24v, didnt take long to break on that though

The car will not be a track car.. may get the occasional treat but not being built for track use..

So I'd be better off going for two of the left e28 m5 mounts?
they seem cheaper in the US!

Hi guys

Great info here, I'm currently converting to M52 power and looking to purchase the engine mounts and reading this I'm best off getting two cylindrical mounts from pelican parts, My question is has anyone experienced any import tax at al?l as I got stung with this a few years ago?

The £56 I've just paid included the import tax when I completed the purchase

Euro car parts stock the 6 series mounts for about 30 quid. If Pelican use USPS for postage then you'll get stung by parcelforce for an £8 handling fee and VAT if not already paid for by Pelican.

A lot of international sellers now pay the customs charges their end, which you cough up for on checkout, the handling fee only applies if the customs is not paid before shipping

I always wondered why American EBay listed import tax as £0, I guess its down to the discrepancy of the seller if they can be arsed to pay customs charges. Ive never bought from someone who has, hah!

If you buy through eBay I don't think the tax is added but if you go streight to the company then they will add the tax onto the shipping cost

Just to let you know I have had to pay £16.64 import tax, had a letter from parcel force and I had to pay it before they would deliver it, so beware people all was not included. :x
