Morning folks,
Right I'm looking at dying the interior in my sport a deep rich red,
Thing is I can't decide which shade to go for, I want a deep/dark rich red but I can't for the life of me remember which is darker cardinal or oxblood.
I'm not looking to go all red but two tone red/black, red seats black/red door cards.
Also been looking at the gliptone kit to do it with, is that the right kit??
Help me out here folks as this is doing my head in lol.
To give you an idea of what I mean have a look at MDT's thread & you'll see what I mean (just a darker red).

Cheers for that Petepacerpete wrote:Crimson is the darker 'oxblood' hue. Cardinal is not as deep and is more terracotta than dark red.

"Ox blood" is not an official BMW colour as far as i know, pretty sure its a slang term like "houndstooth" for County cloth trim.
E30 red leather was Cherry red first (can find pic) then Cardinal then Crimson.
Cardinal

Crimson

Don't really fancy laying out for the kit if it won't work,

the leather door/rear cards are red, the leather armrests/door pulls are black and the leather centre/handbrake consoles are black.
as Pete says, i think Cardinal is more of a terracotta colour, like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261356244262? ... 1423.l2649
or this (brick):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321225362379? ... 1423.l2649
whereas this (Autumn Red) is more like Crimson i think:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251368712021? ... 1423.l2649
did you see this excellent thread?

Its all in the preparation....
Firstly buy the product from liquid leather, they match the colour exactly.
Then you need to clean the seats properly and strip the original leather colour off with their solvent product.
Next clean the leather again and give it a "feed" with the gliptone conditioner.
Then you are ready to apply the colour, I would recommend doing it with a spray gun. Remember less is more. Start if with a thin coat of diluted colour, do a 2nd and 3rd coat, also thin coats. You may feel like a 4th coat is necessary but you should be the judge.
I cannot stress enough how important the preparation is and follow the instructions to the letter.
