right this is gonna be a very long post due to photos
but they have been long awaited as ive been very lazy for the last couple of months....

basic background....i bought this car as my first car back in
june 2005. i had many plans then but as usual plans change and you end up doing things in different orders. this car started life with me as a 316i,with discs all round from factory
(optional extra) abs etc and also m-tech suspension. :D

i had it for a couple of months and the mileage was already on
160k.i dont think the 316i/318i engines were really meant to last
as long anyway as it was high miles and after the usual caning
that everyone gives they're 1st car the head gasket went and the
engine died

this however, only spurred me on to get the 325 dropped in,
as there was no way i was putting a 316i back in it and i had
already drove my mates 328i e36 and loved the straight six sound! :P

I HAD TO HAVE STRAIGHT SIX ITS DAMN ADDICTIVE :D :D

so after hunting around for an engine i came across one and decided
i had to have it (thanks brian28) from a zoner. i then put up a post for someone to go and check the engine for me as it was in bournemouth
and im all the way down in plymouth. to my surprise i got a good few
replies almost instantly, true zoners just wanting to get involved with
anything e30.. :D

the first to get highly recomended though was jimbob and he very
kindly in his own time went and gave the engine the look over and
gave me the all ok (much appreciated jimbob many thanks).

so not just content with the engine i thought id have a look on ebay
for some leather and found some gorgeous grey leather with black
piping to match the colour of my car perfectly. it was in brighton a short
drive from bournemouth where the engine was located so i thought
hit 2 birds with one stone and get both at the same time also killing
my funds for a couple of months but it would all be worth it in the end.

so i got a van, went and got the engine and then on to the leather and back home again, very tiring day as we found out that the specialist
had lent his engine crane to the people next door that was locked up
so we found out just how heavy a 325i engine and gearbox (still connected) were. :x :x

so a couple of months later its out of the specialist with a nice new
engine and home to put the interior in.

here are some pics of the car taken recently and some of the engine
before and after and interior before and after......

engine is nothin special at all but just put them up anyway cos there is a big difference to me...

THE LITTLE M10 316i

AND THEN AFTER WITH THE M20 325i

INTERIOR BEFORE....SHITE GREY CLOTH

AND AFTER WITH THE LEATHER....THE PICS HAVE MADE IT LOOK RATHER GRUBBY AND IT DOESNT ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE THIS IN REAL LIFE BUT THE FLASH HAS BROUGHT UP SOME AWFUL MARKS BUT IT COULD DO WITH A PROPER CLEAN AS I HAVENT GAVE IT A RUB DOWN YET. NEVER MIND HERE GOES.....

well gonna get a tech 2 kit bar spoiler, tech 2 wheel, coilovers,
got a slight bit of rust here and there that is being done next,
smoked hellas, black grill, new exhaust full system, bigger induction kit,
light smoke tints as in the v mod, and that will be about it for a while.
oh and get some new security and ice too but all that is gonna rip
a massive hole in my pocket so not for a while yet.

and obviously the wheels above so il post pics up when ive got them on.

cheers eun :)

Nice to see things are coming along nicely mate 8)
I was beginning to wonder if you had bought that engine or not!
How wide are the wheels you've bought? I think if they're 7-7.5" then for the stretched look go for some 195/40 tyres.

yeah mate it was in the specialist for a good while. 8O

they are 7.5, so if i get 195 they will look stretched yeah?

wont that give me rockier handling to cos theres not much tread on the ground. :P

Hmm not too sure really, I meant to say 195/45 as 195/40 don't exist 8O

Not sure how stretched they'll look to be honest :/
Yea it will probably feel a bit bumpier than what you're used to.

Nice leather btw!

Looking good!!

Eun mate, you don't live in St.Judes do you? Seen an e30 lookin suspiciously like yours just around the corner from me and some of the streets in your pics are very familiar!!

Did you use either of the well known specialists in Plympton for the engine work or did you do it yourself?? Also you don't know of any good breakers in Plym do you? (sorry for going off topic!!!)

Will keep an eye out for your car.

Cheers!

yeah i wondered how long it would take someone to realise that.

its because i had to put a new one on cos the hose had cracked
on the other one, and this one just has a hose with nothing on the end

i didnt want anything being sucked into it and into my engine so just to be on the safe side i put that on it.

can you enlighten me on whether it will be a problem if i take it off or is there supposed to be summat else there? :? :?

the brakes didnt need touching realy as i had discs all round previously,
and for the rear axle yes i upgraded that. apart from that yeah just a straight swop mate. im gonna upgrade the brakes at some point
anyway but it wasnt realy essential.

if your thinking of doing this yourself chances are you will need to do the axle and brakes etc cos not many 316i/318i came with discs all round :D :D

hope that helps :D

my mate has one that he bought from ebay to put on the back off
his derestricted e36 328i but never got round to it.

he keeps hassling me to put it on but i quite like it debadged.
i might get a magnet for it though so i can play off a nightime lol.

feel free to use the photo mate if it helps. :D :D

Haha eagle eyes!

I shouldn't see it being a problem, as you are still getting vacuum from the throttle body, I would try and get a hold of the correct piping though from somewhere, try the wanted section, can't see anyone wanting much for them.

There's a couple of e30 tourings around our neck of the woods, see the blue one on Salisbury road all the time! Mines an alpine white mtech 2 touring. Live just down the hill behind Salisbury road school!

Haven't heard of tony fox, used BMG and Specialist Vehicles up until now. Looking for alternatives.

Need a new bonnet as some idiot has somehow pushed the front edge in. Figure replacing is easier and cheaper than getting someone to pull it out and re paint.

Plymouth is such a small city eh?

Defo keep an eye out for you mate, be good to see how your car progresses!!

Those wheels look amazing, dont see many E30s around here (I live in Plymouth too).

Look out for this one.

http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... ight=bjorn.

I have always taken mine to BMG but might use Tony Fox in future, stopped in there a few months back and seems really helpful.

Best of luck with the rest of the car

Cheers Bjorn
