Bit gutted but still excited to collect it EVENTUALLY! :D

Exactly - why would you have a four door when spending that sort of coin? Coupes are great looking cars though ande a mile away from the bland E90 that has all the visual allure of a Vectra C.
335i's are bad news now, I get asked all the time for turbos, and - get this - steering columns. The 330i is a great all rounder - it's fast, reliable, good on fuel and with the manual box it really does drive like a modern E36. For all that, the autos are very reliable and pleasant to drive.

A 330i auto Touring E91 is a just a really nice car and you'll get a good deal from a main dealer with the warranty.

But - would you believe - there are more problems with manual boxes in E90's.

Is there f uck!

I've replaced more auto boxes than manual on E8x and E9x models.

The autos leak oil from the plastic sumps, the electrical plug and the trans cooler pipe seals.

It only takes the level to be half a litre down and it can start causing problems.

Steering columns can effect all E9x models, not just 335i's. Its the electronic steering lock that fails on them.

i think a manual 330i touring could make appearance on the 13 drive at some point. Would be a good replacement for the B3 e36. Probably similar performance with a bit better economy i reckon and some more toys thrown into the mix. No povo spec for me.

There's 2 different engines in the 330i. The earlier N52 which is 258bhp, less economical, but more reliable.

The later N53 is 272bhp and more economical but is known to have a few issues - I've had an 08 plate one for a while. It's had problems with injectors and ignition coils, but they've all been replaced with revised parts as recall work and it hasn't cost me a penny - BMW didn't care that it didn't have FBMWSH either. Haven't had any problems since. I believe there are problems with High Pressure Fuel Pumps too, but again there's a revised part.

Still the best all round car I've ever had. It's just about possible to get 40mpg out of it on a run if you drive like a vicar and it sounds fantastic and goes like stink. The economy does drop off if you push on but it never gets to the point where you think it's disastrous.

I would have been happy with either engine, but they only put the N53 in the E92 which is what I was specifically looking for. They didn't put it in the E90 for a while after they first introduced it in the E92 too.

Odd. I get asked for a manual box most days, especially stop start ones. I almost never get asked for autos. but what you see outside of a main dealer is different. 335i's apparently had an issue where the column could get stiff and then virtually seize. It happened to a mate's touring when I was at Stratstone. Rare but not unheard of.

Is it the steering shaft with UJ's or the actual column inside the car?

Not at the main dealer any more. :)

Its the silver 'windowmeister' :( Bought back for £400 and served to my client at the Wandsworth Horticultural Institute for £850. Shes taxed and tested until June . All it needs is some window clips and a Koso and she's served :)

* There is also a 51 plate Avensis lurking for £300 which has WHI written all over it as well. I will make sure I get paid for the 'pact before I pull the trigger on the Avensis.

Tom Hartley ain't got nuffink on me ! :)

hang on..........some of the 325's are infact a de tuned 3.0 i don't know if its the N52 or N53 engine. There is a company called mossleman (sp) who make a kit to get the "325" back to 330 power its bascially an inlet manifold and ECU. I think they're about £1000 BUT!! ITs worth considering because people who bought the petrol sixes were private buyers so alot them thought the 325 was quick enough but still added lots of nice options. Opens up the horizon a little when looking.

I don't know if there is much price difference between 330's and 325's of which there are alot more manual 325's than 330's

The detuned 3.0's are an N53. I think anything up to September 2007 was a 2.5 N52.

The 2.5 N52 got phased out in different body styles at different times. My brother has an 11 plate Z4 SDrive 23i which has the 2.5 N52 engine

Does look very nice and rare being a facelift manual 335i touring but no xenons or heated sports seats. :( Both must haves for me!

the boots too big and practical for you anyhow. From what i've seen people shelled out for the manual and 335 and didn't spec them up hugely on the tourings

Thanks for the vote of confidence zd3bx! I haven't been on here for ages, almost forgot about the place as my e30 has been sat up for so long! Thought I'd stick my head through the door and do a bit of thread reviving winkeye

Touching wood as we speak but she's showing nearly 139k now and all I've had to do is a wheel bearing. It gets driven every day, been on numerous long hauls, I've been to holland in it, it gets smashed through the yard at work, caked in mud, boot full of high viz jackets and crusty steel toecaps, it disciplines the majority of swift machinery who chance it, and it scrubs up lovely to take the better half for some posh nosh on a Saturday night.

Can't fault it so far really! Being me, I couldn't resist the temptation of councilness, so I fitted some BMW performance carbon flippers and black grills. I tried to be sensible and bought some h&r springs, but discovered a slight leak from one of the shocks so I had a tantrum and bought a set of bilstein pss9's instead. The ride feels no different to standard!

I wanted some wheels for it but was starting to drown in a sea of fake csl's and almost lost hope, then I happened across a set of Ãaber elusive 19" hartge design D's, in Portugal no less. Gutted that they have no caps though, I'm used to them without now but I would like a set. Probably not to everyone's taste but it's all reversible!

:D
