I have done an M30 conversion, which is all running fine but up until two weeks ago I started getting a problem with my fan setup. I checked all the wiring, fuses and relays which were all good. I then suspected a faulty rad temp switch or the fan itself
I checked if the fan was the problem by shorting the two wires which go to the temp switch and found the fan came on perfectly fine.
I didn't have enough time to order a new switch before I went away on holiday. I came back on Wednesday and started to have a go at resolving the problem today. I bought a new temp switch and fitted it but still the fan would not kick in. I then tried to short the two switch wires again and found nothing happened.
I have checked all the wiring, changed fuses and relays and still nothing happening.
I am now at my wits end with this and cant think of what else to do, so thought I would post on here for some help from somebody local to me who can come over and have a look at the wiring and so on.
I am available all weekend and I am located near colnbrook/heathrow. I would be willing to pick you up and drop you off.
hope someone can please help. either post in here or pm me
Thanks
AJ

if you short the fan and its not kicking in any more maybe it is the fault as in the past i have had problems like this and turns out that putting raw current to it can finish it off if it was faulty to begin with.

I should have mentioned that the fan still works if you connect it directly to the battery, bypassing all the fan and switch wiring thats in place.wullie325i wrote:if you short the fan and its not kicking in any more maybe it is the fault as in the past i have had problems like this and turns out that putting raw current to it can finish it off if it was faulty to begin with.

Which fuses have you checked? The control circuit, which the rad. switch is fed by, should be #19, the same as the door mirrors.

I've checked that fuse and all the other ones and all the fuses are intact. I cant get my head around it.Brianmoooore wrote:Which fuses have you checked? The control circuit, which the rad. switch is fed by, should be #19, the same as the door mirrors.

Is the earth good? A fan is a pretty simple circuit! Use a multimeter or test lamp to check the continuity of the wires.

Yea I did move the earth from the bonnet bracket to where the earth straps for the engine are connected, which should be better but no difference unfoirtunately.Speedtouch wrote:Is the earth good? A fan is a pretty simple circuit! Use a multimeter or test lamp to check the continuity of the wires.
I have a multimeter but it doesn't do continuity, that's why I was hoping to find someone on here who could help. I can imagine somebody who knows what they're looking at will take two seconds to trace the problem, whereas I have been trying all day since yesterday...lol

Just use the lowest ohms setting on the multimeter - if the wire has continuity, it will show close to 0 ohms.
