it doesn't....tried today, it's well too short. the e30 one only just falls short of reaching so I've been advised to use z3m one. It seems the e30 one is more for the m50/2 conversion.

Its been a few years since I did mine, but there wasn't an off the shelf cable that fits.
I know one option was to shorten an S50 cable, but I used the standard S50 cable and moved the bracket on the inlet runner.

I think I shortened the e36 cable by cutting the crimped end off , cut the cable to the right length then soldered the end back on

Yup, exactly that. A picture speaks a 1000 words....

Image

The grey metal strip was mounted to both studs on the inlet runner and extended back to support the black bracket. Looking from the passenger side (as in the pic), the front hole of the black bracket mounted to the rear stud on the inlet runner. The rear hole of the bracket was riveted to the grey metal strip.
The pic wasn't the finished item, it all got trimmed and tidied.

It would've been easier to shorten the cable, but I like the idea of being able to buy and fit a standard item where possible - something that helped me when the original knackered cable snapped whilst I was 25miles from home, but (luckily) a 5min walk from the nearest BMW dealer.

Everything in that pic was there for mock-up - note the E30 master cylinder that doesn't fit and the lack of inlet runners on No.6 and No.3. The extension for the throttle cable was eventually made from a single piece.

I think that pic was taken back in 2003/2004. I never did do the finished pics, but it was all tided away nicely thank you.

so i ended up not moving the bracket,i didnt like how long the cable showing looked, the cable i bought had a long piece of metal crimped on the end of it with just the end flared to stop the nipple coming off,i just welded a new flared end on a third of the way up and filed it to the same shape as the original flared end, looks factory :)
