I am stuck with the choice of these two middle of the road tyres for a set of wheels about to go on my car.
Mainly because of the rear size tyre i'm going to run, a 225/50/15 which is discontinued in every premium brand now.
So, for those of you that have used both, not one or the other what do you think?

I have used both and found the toyos the better of the two but vredstein sportrac 3's better than either.

Dezzy has been pushing me towards the Falkens lately, apparently they last longer (not difficult) and are just as grippy as the toyo's
The proxies were ok when they were sensibly priced, but your looking at £100+ a corner now so getting a bit of wear out of them would be nice!

I had the falken ze912s on the is , I bought new , and they were great, never had any grip issues and drove it all year round and at times have it some too, in that nippy m42 around town fasion, great tyres for the price, a year later they still looked like new and no wear issues

I'm running fk 453 on my e36. Quite an improvement over the 452 in terms of road noise. For the money a decent tyre.

The only cars i can find that use a 225/50/15 as OE fitment are a Toyta MR2 and a Lamborghini Countach front tyre.

Not too bad then really, but depends how long you expect them to last, dont think ive had 10k miles out of a set yet, probably under 8k on the rears, the T1R's on my chromie are looking very sorry for themselves after only 4k odd

I had both Toyo's and Falken FK452's on an Audi TT I had a few years ago. Very similar feel, but the Toyo's wore out much more quickly than the Falkens.

To be honest, they will probably get too old before being low on tread.
They are for a dry use, summer only set of wheels on my E30 that only did 1600 miles between the last two MOT's.

If your not going to be attempting cold/wet driving conditions then go for the harder Falkens I say, I defo wont be buying proxies again for my chromie.

I have proxies on my E30. Although I can't compare with Falkens. I'm very pleased with the proxies. Noticed a saving on fuel consumption, they handle well in the wet and through puddles (sadly I don't have the luxury of only using it in the dry) and generally hold to the road well.

I too have ze912's or whatever number on the front of my car and I can't complain. They are a bit noisey, but they seem to grip well in all weather and have hardly worn in the 10k miles they've been on the car. Still got the coloured bands and number stamps in the tread.polsta wrote:I had the falken ze912s on the is , I bought new , and they were great, never had any grip issues and drove it all year round and at times have it some too, in that nippy m42 around town fasion, great tyres for the price, a year later they still looked like new and no wear issues

I find it funny how peoples opinions on the same tyres can vary so much. I used Falkens for years and thought they were a good tyre....until I tried a good tyre!

Had both Falken and Toyo on various different cars.
I put a set of 16" ze912's on the e36 318is last year. Drove it through all weathers, dry grip was great and not that it matters but I still managed to get around in all the snow and ice with an open diff. They have been on for 15k now, could check the wear at the weekend if it's of any benefit?
I had a set of FK452's on an 03 Corolla T-Sport didn't have any problems with traction but they were bald after 2 years of abuse, still had grip even in the wet though. My preference I think is Falken over Toyo at the moment. Sorry if this is just rambling nonsense.

The best tyres I had in terms of grip were a some Yokohama Parada Spec 2's...M3Jim wrote:I find it funny how peoples opinions on the same tyres can vary so much. I used Falkens for years and thought they were a good tyre....until I tried a good tyre!
... until it rained, in which case you would just aquaplane everywhere.
From work, it was clear that Michelins and Continentals lasted the longest, but suffered from mishapping and perishing due to how long the tread lasted. But then it's like people rave on about Vredsteins, but every Vredstein I've had to inspect has been a mishaped piece of crap.

That's what I'm concerned about, I'm used to conti's or mich's so going down a step may annoy the hell out of me!M3Jim wrote:I find it funny how peoples opinions on the same tyres can vary so much. I used Falkens for years and thought they were a good tyre....until I tried a good tyre!
Damn selfish tyre manufacturers for not making my sizes!!

I'm with you on that one! I had Bridgestones on for a few years....then they stopped my size. Not only did I have the whole tyre choice thing again but I had to buy four! I'm now back to the Continental 3's. Which I love, I had no issues keeping up with cars with semi slicks on at the last Brands outing.bss325i wrote:That's what I'm concerned about, I'm used to conti's or mich's so going down a step may annoy the hell out of me!M3Jim wrote:I find it funny how peoples opinions on the same tyres can vary so much. I've not tried Toyo, but if the car doesn't do that many miles surely the softer compound Toyo is the better option for you.

I've had both on my e30 and rate the flakes more. Grip wise, wear wise and price wise.

Toyos every time.
I've been really disappointed with the last couple of sets of falkens, which didn't last any longer, and had considerably less grip than toyos.
It has to be T1-R though, the T1-sport isn't a patch on it.
Our mk2 golf gti, e30 m3 and e36 m3 all run t1-r all round as they offer the best grip / life / price compromise I've found.

I'm running falkens on my cabby, and I'm switching to toyos. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the ride quality as they are on 17" rims

Just the toyo's or falkens.
But if we are talking other brands FTW, Michelin pilot sport or Continental Sport contact 5P FTMFW!
