Just reading thru the wiki as I plan my fuel system rebuild and it says the carbon canister should be deleted. It says to leave the vent line from the rear of the car open and block off the line going to the manifold. Has anyone done this? Any pics or advice? I haden't thought of doing this but if I dont have to buy a 100$ canister and redo all that piping I'll be very happy... My plan would be to cut the rear pipe over the fuel tank and let it vent there... Not usre if I wouldn't complete remove the line running from the canister to the manifold...

Advice please!!

You can remove the canister if you want it won't make much difference, it is only used to alter emissions on the car, what you do with leftover breather pipe I'm not surre

P.S. why you want to buy new canister? It never suppose to go bad unless its damaged and leaking

Perhaps over the top, but I bought a small, universal fuel filter, like this:

And part-filled it with crushed activated carbon pellets. Put the short rubber fuel line from the top of the tank into one end of the filter, left the other end open, then jubilee clipped it up, out of the way under the car.

Only cost a few quid and stops any crud/crap/water from getting in the tank and stops the car stinking of fuel.

You can copy this arrangement, as used on millions of pre facelift E30s: http://2009.bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/ ... nk_tubing/ or you can tuck the free end of the rubber hose into the suspension tower reinforcement, as on millions of post facelift E30s.
No crud will get into the pipe, and no fuel smells will come out.
Removing the canister has zero effect on exhaust emissions.

Because legislation required it in certain countries. You'll have to check the regulations in your country, but in the UK it certainly isn't required on any pre 09/92 car, and isn't checked in any way in our annual MOT roadworthyness test on later cars.
I have removed them from much later BMWs than E30s.

Excellent idea and that would take care of any vapours. I think I will combine that with a 720 degree loop as I will be removing the fuel tank and cutting the fuel vent line just above the tank. So much to do!....
