I've been looking into sounddeadening for the past while and have compiled a list of whet way I'm going to do it and using what products. Anyone here experienced enough to have a look and comment on the below (from talkaudio where im getting o feedback)
I'm getting my shell back from the painter over the next couple of weeks and one of the first things I want to do is get deadening the thing.

Car I have is a E30 3 series touring with absolutely no sound deadening/proofing what so ever! I stripped out the old original stuff before painting the interior and now want to replace it and make things a little quieter while I'm at it. One concern I have is will it all fit under my carpet and also I don't want to add to much weight doing thi so with that in mind how does this shopping list look for making it better than standard?

Silent Coat 2mm Damping Mat- 25-50% coverage - 1x bulk pack will give me approx 50% coverage going by rough measurements
Foam Solutions CCF 3mm - cover the whole floor, wheel arches and behind the dash
Tecsound 35, 1.7mm- same coverage as CCF

Thats 7mm thickness which I've no idea of being able to fit under the carpet and behind the dash etc. I thought of going with Techsound sy50s but its just that little bit heavier. Overall I should have an improvement over standard and enough materials to double up where I can if I have to.

I'm going to be leaving the 4x doors for another time unless I have enough materials left over to put some techsound behind the door panels.

Hey there

I just did the E30 with silent coat.

The biggest places to apply is on the doors and the floor. The roof can be done if you have the roof lining out.

While the actual pads just add weight , the closed cell foam stuff is where the actual isolation comes from.

I would suggest silent coat absorber and CCF since you going with SC for the pads.

For the floors I found the stock BMW stuff to be really effective , also it has the contours you need for the carpet.

Failing that have a look at Dynapad from dynamat.

Thanks for the reply.

You mean use the SC absorber behind the speakers?

I'm starting wit ha bare, stripped shell, all the original stuff has been removed for paint. Roof and floor are what I want to start with while I have the bare shell, if I have anything left I'll do the doors but for the moment they can come later.

How much silent coat did you use? Any problems getting the carper back in and all the trim with the extra build up?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/sil-iso ... heets.html

This stuff for the floors and the roof

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/silent- ... -pack.html

this stuff for the rattle and metal

I used 2 bulk packs 2mm and 1 bulk pack 4mm, but then I went nuts with the car.

The reason I say use the the bulk pack on the floor then put the riginal foam back in is because there is bugerall wrong with the original foam, it works and works very well.

My foam was lost and I had to improvise with the dynapad.

Anything thicker then the stock foam and you will battle with trim.

By stock foam you mean the foam on the underside of the carpet? If so, it's all still intact and will be left with the carpet.

That Isolator is essentially the same as the tecsound I think?

Apologies for the late reply, I forgot getting the notification and not been on here much lately.

Hi, I just got a sub put in mine and the boot is rattling, anything you'd recommend sorting that?
