Alright chaps!
Car has been dry stored in my garage for over a year as its off he road. I start her once a week just to keep battery charged etc
Car is covered with a (outdoor) sheet. The whole roof etc is covered. Maybe a few drops of condensation fall on the car”¦.nothing major.
long story short. i found the passengers side footwell damp one week, so soaked up as much as i could and turned the heaters on. It dried up pretty well!
A week later i got to start the car (as its sitting) and this time the footwell is wetter than before!
What could it be?!
cheers

Your heater matrix could be leaking, taste the liquid to see if its sweet
or check your coolant level. I've had a wet carpet twice now and the only way to dry it properly is to remove it. You can take the sill cover off and slide your hand under the carpet to feel how bad it is.
Good luck!

The car JUST about fits in my garage. no room to work on it! brought this motor as a project that needed mechanical work but body was solid! and now i realised i've got a wet footwell”¦..i dont even know how long its been like this!
Was planning to get it on road after march. Will pull it out then and begin work for MOT etc”¦Hopefully floor pan is okay!

Heater control valve?
Have you got antifreeze mixed in with the coolant? If not the taste test doesnt work but if the cars is under cover it's not likely to be rain water, check the elephants trunk is clear anyway.

ye totally dry stored. As i mentioned earlier maybe a few drops of condensation fall”¦.But to the extent to which my carpet was drenched.
When i start my car as i do weekly, i look under to see if any water is running down from behind the dash. doesnt appear to be any”¦although their does seem to be a trail as the carpet is slightly stained.
But wouldn't i see the water running down behind the dash into the footwell while the car is running? if the matrix was at fault?

+1 My control valve was cracked and footwell was all wet, very little crack that could bearly lokate it or see water spitting out.DHFiS wrote:Heater control valve?

If your coolant is mixed with antifreeze I think antifreeze should keep it from rusting

If it's coolant going into the carpet, then the level in the header tank will be going down!

checked coolant level and it was LOW. so definately coolant leaking into passengers footwell.
Does this eliminate anything as with regards to what is at fault?
Heater matrix? Or Heater control valve was mentioned”¦Where about is that?
