Guys,

What do you think would happen if bare shell would go through such process? Do you think 450 degrees would damage/melt/bend/change anything?

Would be perfect to get all the old paint off to bare metal and get it galvanized. But then - would paint stick to zinc ?!

No doubt it would have the general shape of an e30. But 450*C is going to warp panels, big time. The steel will want to go back to the shape that it was before it was pressed into panels.

You could lessen the effect, but you would need to slowly bring the whole shell to 450*C and then let it cool down slowly. Impractical really, and it still may bend.

I wish there would be such plant in our country. We only have one in total, and its hot dip.

That's acid dipping and E-coat. No 450 degree heat needed. :)

It would end up a right mess! Have you ever seen a gate post for example thats been galv'd? The last bit to come out of the tank has the most material build up, you end up with 'galv thorns' where it drips off, very painful! Box sections have to have holes put in to stop them exploding too! Being a car body, it would all gather/pool in any place it runs to, lots of 'container' bits to hold the galv.
I doubt anyone would take the job on either TBH

Didn't the 318IS have a galvanized shell? Surely it would be best to build your long term e30 on a 318IS shell if this is true.

Cold dipping gives the same cathodic protection as hot dip, but it is applied as a paint.
Paint after depends on the manufacturers data sheet.
hmmmm :?:

Undoubtably by a 'mini M3 ' pilot trying to justify his turd after being severely disciplined by a 325 :D
