Hey chaps.

Anyone got a guide / tutorial on the best way to attack the front not-jacking points, mine have rust on the inside footwells and I need to do them for the MOT. Before I attack with a grinder I just wondered if there was a proper way to sort it?

Ta.

In both your pics, you can see it's rusted inboard to the strengthening lump. That's as far as mine penetrated too, so your repairs will be to the same extent.

Are the box things underneath welded on or glued? Do I have to take off the whole area, or just the rusty bits?

Best way to do it is cut the lot plus a bit more where the rust is and make new with new steel then fabricate them non jacking points from some 3mm steel and weld them back on after you have repaired the floor.

Make some cardboard templates to get the curves right before you hack away.

plenty of write-ups on here

The box bits are welded on, and you want to remove the area completely; they're a water trap, which is what causes the rust in the first place.

If you look, the rusty corner is the meeting of three metal sheets; the horizontal floor pan, the vertical bulkhead, and the other vertical that forms the inner A-pillar. Ideally you want to separate the floorpan from the bulkhead, and take out the rotten metal from there and any rot that may have penetrated the A-pillar section. Then just fold up a repair plate and weld it in, then seal it up appropriately.

As welding jobs go, it's an easy one.

It's a track car right? Just leave them off, they have no use.

I may get someone else to do it as I'm not sure I have the time / energy required.

Any idea on what I should be paying for a garage to do it?
