I switched on my rear heater/fan this morning and had to switch it off quickly as smoke and a burning smell was coming from it. Can someone please let me know how to disconnect this. It is useless any way. so I think I will disconnect it permanently.
Thanks

Hi, If you you take the rear seat back out you can just unplug it.

I can get the rear bottom part of the seat out easily, does the rear back have to be released from the boot? There doesn't seem to be any release catches in the car. Also could I just remove the fuse?

Hi, get hold of the seat back at the bottom and lift it up towards roof and it justs pulls out. there might be other things runing off that fuse. you could just disconnect the swich.

I junked my blower in favour of using the supply to power a sub woofer! but for your problem an easy way to disconnect just that blower is open the cab roof cover and on the passenger side (my drivers side LHD) under the roof frame you will find a small micro switch (which should only allow the blower to be on when the roof is up). pull the connectors apart tape em up and your blower will never work again!! if you do want to power a sub BTW you must short this out or you only get base with the roof up, no good!

That's probably because there isn't that much of a need in Bahrain for de-misting.

Only in summer on the front windscreen sometimes.

Open the windows, a/c on full blast for a few mins - sorted 8)

My blower only gets used in winter, and if it hasn't been used for a while it always smells a bit from the dust I guess that has got into it. After a while, it sort of finds it's legs and works a treat.

If any one has "recondittioned" their blower it;d be cool to know what to do, though, to make it more like a 2000W hairdryer on heat.

May be I just panicked, but I was taking no chances with the smell and the cloud of smoke. I think I will take the safe option and disconnect it, unless somebody has had similar problems and can suggest a fail safe remedy.

Dont panic as said it would fill with dust over summer whent the roof is open and the smell will probably be the dust burning on the heating element. run it for 10-15 mins but keep an eye on it. if you are worried ruin it with the rear seat back removed so nothin can catch on fire!!! (two 17mm bolts at base of rear seeat back then lift the whole thing up it usually needs a good firm tug oh er). if it still smell after 15 mins take it out and shake it out upside down, there really is not much to go wrong if its hot the elements are fine, if it blows the fan is fine!! worst you really should be able to do is blow a fuse.
