right,

i have a big problem..... tonight i went to the petrol station and
put in a full tank of fuel. i then proceded on my way for a little drive
around town and after about 20 mins got pulled by the filth.....
for a "routine check" apparently. after being given a producer etc
i went to pull away and my engine kept cutting out.

it was turning over and starting for a couple secs then just cutting out,
if i took my hand off the key.

so i called rac and they came to visit and he said he cant hear the
fuel pump going when im turning it over. apparently he said if you
go underneath you can hear it running through. he then sprayed the
carburrettor (spelling) with some cleaner and it started for a few secs and then cut out again so he said he thinks there is no fuel coming through.

he said he wasnt sure whether the fuel pump was gone and whether
it was on the inside or outside of the tank!

can anyone please help me

has anyone ever experienced summat like this before?

any info asap would be greatly appreciated

cheers eun

sound like fuel pump,

should be internal, under the rear bench seat you will find a black oval plate held in by 4 screw( drivers side) its there, take it out and smack it few times it may start to work again. very easy fix

He's obviously not clued up here lad's, help him out a!!

Not sure but do you need a stronger fuel pump for the 325i?
Other than that, it's inside the fuel tank mate so you would'nt here it anyway.

Do what Kos said first geese, much easier to do it that way but i'm sure this should have been uprated to cope with the 2.5 from the 1.6 :?

Its easy, just take out rear bench....you will see a big round thing on the floor pan under where the bench sits, undo the nuts and pull out the motor!

what has that pipe with the party popper on got to do with fuel and fuel pump? That's just for the vacum for the brake servo. Admittedly the car would run like a bag of shite though if that was off or split or have I just not read the post properly?

Would'nt the loss of vacum cause the FPR to play up ?

The fuel pump should be as most have already stated inside the tank, there are a number of pipes leading to the top of the pump , outlet and return pipes, Its not unusual for the pump to play up with an intermittant fault, best just to replace it , There also should be an inline fuel filter on the nearside rear floor pan (external) just in front of the rear wheel , suggest thats changed as well. Possible that you've got a dodgy relay which is located inside the engine bay adjacent to the air box , small plastic cover with 2 / 3 relays fitted orange and or white |could have that tested
