door card fix?

on my car the drivers door , the door card flaps around in both bottom corners when opening and closing the door and looks tatty .i have bought new plastic clips for it but the hole that they go in is all smashed up and just comes out ,whats the best way people have fixed this? i was thinking of glueing some thin board on top and re drilling a hole or would that come off aswell? or shall i buy a good door card and take the leather off mine and re-staple it on the new card? or is that more hassle than its worth?
