Evening gents,
Just driven back from work and my temp gauge which usually sits at a 1/4 went rather quickly to have way from cold then dropped a bit then the next 15 miles was spent watching it go from half to nearly 3/4 and back again with me about to pull over at any given moment. When I did pull up had a quick check in the dark but all hoses seem same temp and under pressure, nothing felt scalding hot? Not lost any fluid.the temp gauge fell quickly back to a 1/4 but was again soaring towards 3/4 within a couple of hundres yards.....?
Pointers please... Knackered stat?

I had a similar problem that wasn't helped by tightening the nut on the back of the gauge. In the end I put in a new gauge and it's been fine since.

The dude who owned it before me(7 years ago I might add) put some after market dial surrounds in so I'm hoping he didn't do it back up correctly when he had them out............

Right folks, cluster out, checked the little nut on the back,I would say it wasn't loose, certainly not finger loose anyway,I have nibbed it up a bit to ensure good earth but I don't think this is the cause, but I'll but it all back together and see.......stat next if it still warms up?

Right. Temp increased slowly to 1/4 blower was still cool, then crept up towards half slowly, upon revving the engine the temp dropped quickly back towards 1/4 and the blower got noticeably warmer? Off the gas it cooled again and temp stayed pretty steady....? Is this pointing to the stat or an air block or something? Help appreciated...
Thanks

Doesn't sound like anything's wrong.

The blower will get slightly warmer as you rev the engine, that's normal.

And the needle can sometimes go from 1/4 to 1/2, which is ok, as the temperature difference is very little on these gauges between those marks.

Read this (the bit about temp gauge reading low) > http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... eading_Low

Thanks, just that this hasn't occurred before, especially going above half way like yesterday. Think I'll change the stat anyway. I'm never selling the thing so may as well
