looking to covert an M20B25 auto over to manual from doing a little digging I've found that the parts I need are as follows..

1. Manual gearbox with clutch fork, throwout bearing, shifter parts etc,

2. Pedal assembly with clutch master cylinder, clutch switch etc

3. Prop shaft

4. Manual gearbox cross member

5. Reverse light harness

6. Flywheel

7. Slave cylinder

all seems fairly straight forward but will I need to change my diff too? which gear box is best to use?

You will need a spigot bearing for the crank.

You can use any m20 box, the diff will depend on what is in there and what you are using it for.

There is a bit of wiring to do too.

I have a full auto to manual kit here :)

Regarding the wiring, get behind the glovebox and find the black/yellow wire.On auto's it's split with two black wires wandering off it.Un-plug the black one's and re-connect the black/yellow one's.The black/yellow is the start signal wire,BTW,runs from the ign switch to the starter motor.
Trace the plain blacks, they go to a relay in the footwell, then a sub-loom goes under the carpet to emerge by the selector lever,dis-connect here and connect the reverse loom from the manual 'box to the reverse light loom.

Gearbox.
Some will say that only the 'sport' 'box will do the job with it's closer ratio's.
But I would use an ex-320i 'box, ratio's are almost the same as a 'sport' 'box and it will be cheaper to buy!
I have used such a 'box with my 2.7 M20 for years with no problems.
Clutch
Again, some will say that only the heavier 325i clutch will do,I have used the lighter 320i one with my 2.7 for years with no problems.

You only need the clutch switch for cruise control so don't worry about sourcing one of those.

Bear in mind if you use a 320i box you will need the matching prop and hear linkage.

New flywheel bolts are needed.

I would also recommend a new prop centre bearing and guibo if they don't look new plus a new selector shaft Knuckle, nylon socket and support bushes, and a Z3 1.9 lever to shorten the throw. Gearbox oil seals as well. All this things are easy to do while its all apart and saves doing it at a later date.

What 325i have you bought as I will know what ratio diff it has as long as its original to the car?

It will most likely be a 3.91 or 3.73.

Clutch fluid resevoir, bracket, and hose that goes to the master. And the pipe which goes from the master, to the hose, which goes to the slave. And the spring clip to keep that pipe in the bracket on the bulkhead.

Gearbox oil.

A clutch.

Part of the bracket is welded to the shell on RH drive models, so needs to be cut off of a donor and welded to your shell for a 'factory' job. Alternatively it's not a major job to fabricate a bolt on alternative.

Even the auto models have steering wheel paddles on the non Alpina models. The 6 speed auto is pretty good!
