Just rebuilt my 51mm struts with new bilstein b4 shocks and second hand apex lowering springs. Concern I have is that after building the struts up the springs don't fill the space they should (difficult to explain). The top of the springs don't reach the top perch with the car jacked up. I'm sure once the weight of the car is on them the shock will compress and the spring will hit the top of the perch, but this doesn't seem right. I'm concerned that should the weight ever be taken off the struts the spring may not reseat itself properly on the upper perch.
Is this normal?

How "second hand" are the springs and how much "lowering" should they be ?

Bought from this forum about 6 months ago. Code on the spring is 20-10351 VA 5/10. Just measured them and the normal 325i spring is about 12.5 inches high and these are 9 inches.

Yep, 60mm drop. Didn't want that far as only just found out they ate that much.
