I'm currently putting together the engine on my sport and was thinking do I send my injectors to be cleaned and tested or do I update them? If they were uprated and maybe the engine remapped what would I need to consider?
I know they're basic questions but you guys seem to have a wealth of knowledge and I thought I'd lean on ya
Cheers

It might help if we know what engine.
But my suggestion would be get the originals cleaned. Much less hastle.

Ok well the M50b20 are a close flow match, with a 4 pintle head.
But seriously, a cleaned set of the correct injectors will allow the engine to start, idle, and have the correct amount of power as when it left the factory, providing everything else is in as good condition.

So what if we wanted to squeeze a bit more power out of the old girl? The heads been skimmed ported and polished and it will all be buttoned up properly

Unfortunately this is the truth, OEM stay standard, big power best to go different engine for cost effectiveness.bss325i wrote:Have a read through this thread.

Just to buy Cam and decent 6 branch for M20 new is just ridiculous.

Bss that was an interesting read.... And I have come to my own conclusion....
I will be keeping the car absolutely standard because I'm sure the people who engineered and designed these cars spent £££££ on research and development and know a hell of a lot more than me.
The only consideration is the advance in technology, so maybe some basic upgrades could be made... Maybe injectors or air intake... I'm just trying to educate myself here and make the best choices before putting it back together and sticking it in the car

Air intake and injectors are fine on a standard M20.
More power can be had from a schrick 272 degree cam without any major side effects.
A BTB six branch manifold will again give about 15bhp and similar torque again with no side effects.
But those two things will cost about £1200 and thats if you can get the manifold on a group buy!

Unless your a second generation rich kid I can't see any reason why you would spend that much!? I would rather put a e36 m3 engine? Those conversions are about 4.5k?bss325i wrote:Air intake and injectors are fine on a standard M20.

More than £1200 could be spent if you take the head off to fit the cam and refurb the head at the same time, which kind of makes sense. My head refurb, Cam and head set was over £600.

Yep, as jim said another load of money would need to be spent doing the head at the same time as the cam.
As for spending that much on an M20, some people want to keep the M20 especially in a 325i Sport.
And fitting an S50 engine will set you back £4-6k depending on if you buy an engine or a whole E36 M3 to break and get some money back.

Also, the black rubber part on the timing belt cover is back to front and upside down.

You've got that far with it so im sure you'll be fine. If you get stuck then the tech section on this forum is very good and always sure of a quick reply.
