Hi i have recently bought a 1992 318i auto cabriolet and am wanting to convert to 2.5 running gear, but im confused to weather i can use the 318 front subframe or will i need a 325 one? Are the mounting points for the engine different?

I have been told in the past they are differnt but acording to the wiki it seems there is no need to change existing subframe..

Thanks saj

Great that helps alot thanks..

Am i also right in thinking that my convertible will also already have the larger suspenion struts as apose to other 318 models?

Will i just have to upgrade brakes and running gear then to get up to 325 spec

Thanks

Ragtops and tourings have the larger front struts, as per 325 saloons, and should also have a rear ARB. You should also have 325 saloon spec. brakes.
It's only small engined saloons that have the inferior stuff.

One last question..

Im looking to keep the car as an auto so in order to have the switchable auto box which doner car will i need to find or which year onwards or is the switchable function somthing which can be added to any autobox?

And will the gear selector and cable be the same in my car or will i need to change these too

Thanks again
