CP Forged Pistons

Hi there,
I am in the process (slowly) of getting my M62B44 rebuilt after piston failure. The block is getting sleeved and I will be using CP forged pistons as used by VAC Motorsports in the US. It seems that only VAC can supply them - does anyone know if this is true, or is there a UK company who can supply them to me?
I'm keeping the same 92mm bore and am going for the 9.8:1 pistons to slightly reduce my cr as it will be supercharged.

Thanks for your reply - I think I'll have to get them from VAC and hope that they can send it to me as a gift to avoid the potential import duties....
The set of CP pistons is about a grand plus shipping. To have the cylinders bored and honed and spun cast liners fitted is about £1300.
All I want is a reliable strong engine! Don't we all?!

I hadn't considered Wossner pistons, mainly due to not knowing about them (!). I had thought about using Mahle, as they are the OE, but when I did my research into rebuilding the engine it always led me to VAC's website. They have done a lot with the M62 engines, so I figured it would be best to use CP, seeing as they do.

What pistons have you used in your motor then? Is yours supercharged?

Hi Ben, I haven't chosen a head gasket set yet. I might get one made up by Mike Tanski (http://www.ferriday.co.uk/), because apart from being a really nice guy he knows his stuff....

The twin turbo conversion is going super bloody slow at the minute. I'm currently moving and saving for a house so it's been put on the back burner for abit but I'll be still spending time on there.

Mike has advised me to stick with the OE gaskets for my application, but perhaps your beefier engine will make use of them? Send him an email and see what he says - he's totally straight down the line, so you can't go wrong.
Sounds like your life is pretty busy at the minute, much like me - busy at work and a new arrival due at home in March....... The rebuild will be done pretty quickly once I've got the pistons sorted. Everything else is ready and waiting and I know the ecu map will work on the rebuilt engine, so there's little to worry about there.
I bet yours will be ready before mine though!

Well I wonder if I could use the OE gaskets as well then because I don't want to run a lot of boost between both the turbos, plus I'll be using M52 ARP head bolts to keep the bugger in place.
I'm hoping to use the E30 as a wedding car for my wedding as well next year so need to get my arse moving haha.

Mike Tanski says unless we're using uprated internals we would be better off using std gaskets. He sells a lot of his bi-metal ones to highly tuned Cosworth lumps etc, so my .5bar 'charger is well under that level!

I'm using standard head bolts afik, my engine builder hasn't said otherwise.....
Basically, as soon as he gets the pistons the engine can be rebuilt and I can get it fitted in the bay and running on the Emerald. It's easy if you say it quickly.
