I fitted my chip last night, took the car out for a spin and all was fine, I was a happy man.
But, and theres always a but, I got in it this morning and the bugger wouldnt start! It spins over lovely but just wont fire up.

Any suggestions?

maybe's best to retrace your steps last night and check nowt is loose mate and just check connections in general. But perhaps best to ask Ant if it is a Zone chip

I think (or atleast hope) that its coincidence with the chip, as I say, I fitted the chip last night then took the car for a spin and everything was fine.
This morning its very cold and frosty so ill try the car again lunchtime when its warmed up a bit.

did you leave the car to idle and settle for a good 10-15 mins to let the fueling adjust?

Yes I did that when I fitted the chip, then left the car for about an hour while I had my dinner, then took the car for a spin for about an hour. When I returned home, I sat in the car for about 5mins with the engine running while I sorted out some cd's.

hhhmmmmm, maybe its something else then buddy if the chip seemed to be fine when installed, your best asking for ANT regarding chip problems buddy... find the contact member tag and put out a request for him

Well ive just been home and given it another go and nothing, ive checked the ECU connector and thats still firmly in place and there dont seem to be any random wires.

One thing I have noticed though is, from the top of the coolant bottle there are 2 small hoses, one of them isnt connected to anything. Should it be?

Do you mean the header tank?

If so, the one thats not connected(@ one end) should be the overflow....

You should put the original chip back in and make sure it is the chip to blame :?

As the chip is software and worked fine on install I'd suggest the 1st thing to do is disconnect the battery for 30 seconds and try again, the chip cannot be damaged or erased easily,

Try evoking the flood clear mode, foot to the floor, no pumping and crank for a few seconds, no fuel will be injected but compression will be built up and any unburnt fuel will be removed

all else fails. pop the old chip back in, but that would be a 1st for me :?

I second what Ant said there. When i fitted my chip ages ago the day after it did this, all it needed was to idle for about 20 mins to get it running right again, but it was a twat to start, foot flat to the floor and turn key

thats what mine sounded like, keep it running and after about 20 mins it will be ok,or should be.If it stalls just re start it.
Every few mins you will hear the engine pick up a bit better as the ECU adjusts. Each time getting better until it runs right.
Once running ok take it for a fast drive and it should be fine.Just dont take the battery off again or you'll have to do it all again !!

If it doesn't idle ok after 20 mins then something is up.

Thanks for your help everyone. Ive run it for about 20 mins and all seems fine now. I just wasnt expecting to have problems the morning after. Perhaps this should be mentioned in the guide or on the delivery note? as some people may pay a mechanic to check the car over.

Thanks again, theres nothing worse than being stuck at work knowing your cars at home and poorly :( lol

Make sure and rev her out in 3rd to ensure the whole map is swopped from rom to ram, and you should have no repeat of this hassle dude.

The guide onsite is simple to avoid confusion, my contact details are supplied with the compliments slip for any situation thats not covered in the guide.

Sorted !

Well I changed my spark plugs the other day, my alarm has been playing up and its a fairly new car to me so it could have been anything.

Hello guys,
ive just got my chip through and was wondering, once all is running well, what happens if i have to disconnnect the battery?
will i have to go through the set up again or is it a case as Ant say of flooring it in 3rd and the whole set up will be perminantly saved>
Only reason i ask is because my baterys been playing up a bit lately.
cheers

all that happens to the chip if the battery is disconnected is that the ECU uses its memory of the car iirc. it takes about an hour to get it back

so for the first hour of reconnection, im pretty sure the car will run rough?

i think this is the gerneal concensus with all chips but only the man himself ant will be able to inform ya

just curius, last winter i had to disconect the batery if i wasnt driving it for more than 2 days as the batery would drain due to an electrical fault.
alway seemed to run fine after reconection i think?

The 073 early ECU does not suffer the same glitches as the later M 3.1 onwards types, the 073 uses the eprom as ram once powered up, the onboard ram is ignored on all the 28 pin modded units
