hello, just removed my rad due to leaking seam(pressure tested cooling system due to slight coolant loss with fear of h/g probs)and fan has been slighty catching rad and have noticed it is close to viscous fan to the point that to remove fan rad has to come out first anyone had this on there 325???????

will be investigating when i refit the recorred rad
i know all the possibilities if it is incorrect,so how close are they normaly is what im getting at?

on my 325i, after removing the fan of the waterpump thread, there is no room between fan or rad, but with a very gentle push, the fan will move of the thread...

Firstly check the engine mounts. They / or one of them maybe sheared.
If so thats why the fan is touching. You should be able to remove it without removing the rad.32mm thin spanner, left handed thread.

If you need a radiator i have a new one here, its fitted with an electric RS turbo fan also so if you want to ditch the stupid viscous then 2 birds one stone.

yes, but only very slighty, with no damaged cause.

It mainly looked like the fan had just brushed against the rad...

dunno, its not brand new, just really good condition with little use.
If you've had yours recored then i would just stick with that.

does the leccy fan sit infront or behind rad......
bearing in mind the intercooler is gonna be in kidneys isnt it??

im only askin because obvoisly a leccy one is more efficient and less of a power sapper.

yeah it sits infront.May still clear intercooler, not sure how close it is.
If so then you'll need a suction type fan, plenty on ebay,or just leave the viscous fan on.

Did you check the engine mounts ?
