Older cars rust, yes come in places you cant see straight away. But I am also becomign fixated with this 'get the carpets up' rubbish. You do that to your own car once you buy it and want to make it perfect. No seller in their right mind would go through all the effort of taking their carpets up and kit off just to take pictures and sell their car. In my opinion that person would be perfect to buy from but an idiot.
Lol I have seen it mentioned a few times -'I bet its a rotter when the carpet is up!' lol. What is a mint car? It is all relative - one that has excellent bodywork, excellent interior, engien in perfect order with no nasty leaks etc, mechanically all fine. These cars are 20+ years old so will have something very minor here or there, liek for example a bit of rust underneath.

I agree with that but there are people who advertise a car or even just owners who think their car has no rust and never will.......and their are wrong i'm afriad. You are far better off getting a properly restored car such as Polsta's than a 20+ year old car where the seller swears it has no rust as that's just plain BS.

Jim, not every E30 rusts and that's a fact.
I know your remarks are aimed at me and I have had a scab or two sorted before it got any worse but the key things to E30 survival are being garaged, periodic cleaning and waxoiling of key areas and not allowing water ingress to fester.
I've had "my carperts up and kit off" several times and guess what? No rust.
If you think polsta's car is a has been restored properly you are mistaken.
Most sellers who claim their car is rot free are talking BS but not all.
Trouble is I doubt a large percentage of the zone even know what a nice original E30 looks like.

I'm sure this is pretty much true! I've come pretty close on a number of occasions but then been let down by something or otherbss325i wrote:

ALWAYS assume any E30 is a pig until proven otherwise, I come across a lot of cars some cheap and many many expensive turds,
I would love to post Gruesome pics of a well known lachs silver M3 I have at the minute, but the owner wouldn't be pleased, after all he spent 27k buying the turd without a proper inspection
with any E30 the outcome is almost always grim... and why wouldn't it be? they were foooked and rotten 10-15 years ago !!
the sad fact is many are sold because of impending/very expensive to repair rot problems that second hand dealers and crooks are very good at hiding
