My first E30 had a stripped spark plug on No.6 cylinder, only discovered when I went to fit new plugs. I investigated numerous ways of holding the plug in, eventually settling on Chemical Metal with small lengths of MIG welding wire to jam it in to the head.

However, it failed the MOT once on emissions, so while the MOT tester wasn't looking, I disconnected the injector to that cylinder, and lo and behold, the emissions level dropped enough to pass the test. The MOT tester demanded to know what I'd done, but I kept schtum!

These shots of Toyota Prius woodies are amusing:

Well, yes, it was a bodge, bonding a spark plug in, but I'd never consider using Araldite to bond a trailing arm on! 8O

My brother's GF's Peugeot 206 recently developed an odd graunching noise that sounded rather terminal. I gingerly drove it to a garage, and they noticed that the lower bellhousing bolts had come out, and the gearbox was at an angle to the engine! 8O

Several new bolts later, and it's been fine since, though the starter motor now squarks when starting off, as some teeth on the flywheel must have got chipped.

So many mismatched parts on this "build" hence why i named it "frankenstein!"

Bloke come round, one day to buy a prop., he had welded the old one after it apparantely 'just broke', possibly the worst safety related bodge, I'd seen:-

He drove the 2 miles to my house with prop. like that!

Well, 2 miles isn't a vast distance is it? Probably quite safe, as long as he was taking it easy - it does appear to be reasonably well welded.

Why - as long as it worked, which it looks like it would? :?

OK, it's not the prettiest bit of welding in the world, but if it's sound enough to do the job, and is out of sight, out of mind...

The glaring the obvious omission of the strainer!

Sure. I presumed, perhaps wrongly, that the strainer was fitted to the end of the pickup pipe in some way?

Not just that but the strainer is designed to hold a quantity of oil, and is positioned very close to the bottom of the pan to prevent oil starvation, last time I had to buy an E34 pickup pipe it was about £12

It might have been acceptable on a 50's or 60's BL shitter that would only rev to 4k rpm, but not on an S50

Ambassadors all had 'modern' OHC O series mills. The earlier Princess had the B series tractor engine*

Not entirely correct. The Princess was fitted with the O Series from July 1978 as part of the much improved Princess 2 facelift. The O Series was manufactured on the B Series tooling as well. The Princess was available with the 2200 E6 motor that was not used in the Ambastardor.
The O Series formed the base of the T16 Rover mill as well as one of the best diesels ever made, the Perkins Prima. :D

Funniest bodge I've seen years ago as a kiddywink in the mid 90's (so no pics, either of the bodge or me you paedos), a B reg Subaru Estate had a corroded exhaust. The box sections were bodged up with exhaust tape etc but the pipe section was rotten. The then stepdad replaced this with a metal vacuum cleaner pipe... cleverest thing he ever did! :D

Fookin loud afterwards mind....

I did a similar thing on my Minor Traveller's exhaust, which needed a 4" extension putting in; a passing mate of my brother's suggested using a section from a nearby scrapped wheelbarrow handle, which I duly did, cutting out the section with an angle grinder then MIG-welding it in - it happened to be just the right diameter. It's still on there, several years later. :)

My mate picked up a cheap mk4 golf pd130 which had been 'splashed by a lorry coming the opposite way and cut out'. It must have been hell of a splash as it had a bent rod, but our first insight into the loving pampered existence this beauty had been treated to, was this uprated VW motorsport sump plug.......

Chemical Metal FTW! :) I had to do that (albeit on a smaller scale) with a 1987 Mercedes 190E I bought, that had been lowered too much at the front; the slightest speed hump would break the repair so it would have to be redone again.

In fact, I got stranded down in Horsham, Sussex with it one night after the sump leaked too badly to continue, and had to sleep in the car overnight, and go to work the next morning looking rather swarthy and unshaven.

I then had the deep joy of having to bodge it up again to get home. :(
