Has anyone ever encountered a brand new spring on the rear snapping ? Lucky to be alive and bought from gaz uk lltd I'm so shook up by it. Tried to call them up but closed on Saturday left them a message .. Recovery cost a bomb and the alloy seems to be fuked also and these have never been fitted and were brand new out the box I will post some pics up .

A full coilover spring, or separate spring / damper like the original setup?
Never heard of a brand new spring snapping, would have to be a manufacturing fault imho.
However, snapped springs themselves are increadibly common, but usually only happen after 5 years or so, and the vast majority of the time you wouldn't even know until mot time, which has always surprised me.

Freaky! The scariest possibility is the spring snapping then puncturing the sidewall of the tyre at speed, which has happened in some incidences.
Leaf springs and torsion bars FTW!

Check out the overspray!
Bet that wasn't painted in an oven
Were those springs correct for that car?
Ie lets assume is a convertible and have you got some heavy ICE in the boot?
Are the springs for a convertible and not from something light like a 2dr 316?

Even then I'm not sure they would fail like that, think of the huge safety factor that will be designed into springs.
I would guess a manufacturing defect, possibly to do with the heat treatment process making them brittle

common on modern cars for springs to snap at top or bottom and only find out when they go for MOT or to have a knocking noise checked, but not like that in the pics

I spoke to gaz uk on the phone and told them exactly for what car I needed them for a 325i cab and that is what they sent me and it has got it written on the spring itself they are also a lot smaller and thinner than any I have ever had on the car but it looks to me like a faulty set find out on Monday what they are going to dobss325i wrote:Check out the overspray!

They don't even feel like metal they are ultra light weight compared to the other and it looks like they are made from cement or somethingCypriotgeeza wrote:I was just thinking the same thing, were they rated for the weight?bss325i wrote:Check out the overspray!

Interesting.
Obviously a manufacturing defect or wrong springs sent out.
