Looks very tidy but a automatic sport with no leather can't be worth that much.and who knows what lies under the body kit.he seems to have forgotten to mention that

if sports are worth that much nowadays then im tempted to get my sport up for sale and but a poverty spec 316 to play with

Difficult one this. Good ones are hard to find, mint ones even harder.

Fabric trim? I'd rather a solid car with very few structural issues and sit in fabric than have a welding fest and tatty leather (which lets face it, most leather trims are).

Mileage is the issue here for me. For 9 bags I'd be expecting considerably less digits showing.

I think it's a bit toppy to be honest but if its as clean and original as he's claiming, you have to go find another as clean if the above bothers you.

Owned for 7 months and selling already. That would raise a few questions with me, but still massively overpriced imo. I'm now seriously regretting selling my 90k sport for what I sold it for 1 and half years ago!

IF and its a big if, it is clean with not rot and not a welded up patchfest, has no major mechanical issues or even a load of minor ones, basically a car you can just use and not have to spend another grand or two on or more on body work then yes its high in price but the way you have to look at it is that if you spend £4-5k on a sport, its going to probably need the same again spending on it.

An E30 thats been allowed to go rusty and then patched up will never be the same as a nice E30 that's never been rusty.

There was a lachs silver auto sport with cloth up for £12k not so long ago but that had half the mileage of this one. It did have some some small repairs and a full paint though.

You can't ask that money and only have some history. Looks nice in the pictures but that's just pictures, what is hidden behind the skirts and bumpers is a different story.

I agree with Barry tbh.

IF its rust free, never been welded, and still all the original paint, then its probably worth it, and I don't think the gearbox or cloth will make that much difference to the value. If it voters you that much, pick up an interior of our choice and put the original in storage.

A mint original shell with interior change is still a far better car than a once rusty, cut up, welded, repainted one which happens to have leather seats.

A car is only original once, no matter how good a restoration its had it will never be as good as one of the exact same spec an quality but totally original.

I do understand the whole "original" value to an extent, however if I am completely honest I did not buy mine for that reason. They are simply fantastic value for money even if you spend a couple of grand every year maintaining, welding, painting etc.

I would rather spend 2k on a car that needs some work over the next few years than 10k on an "original"...

It rarely is just a couple of grand a year on upkeep though. Most of the cheaper ones are resto projects with an mot on them which will end up costing more than a nice original unrestored example in the first place.

An e30 can EASILY swallow £4k+ in a body resto so as that to the say £4k on buying a rough but mot'd one and your up to over £8k and that's before any mechanical work or upgrades, interiors, wheel or wheel refurbs.

And it will always be a restored car.

It makes more economical sense to buy a nice one with little or no issues for a higher price and then keep it nice.

And it will always be a better car than a resto.

auto and good cloth (rather than tatty leather) for me would be 2 pluses for a sunday car. worth it if the car is perfect, but would have to be, as mentioned, it is 100k plus..... although most cars are now gonna be 100k plus (or have had a haircut). if it is straight and going to be ZERO aggro, and i was on the market for a sport, then it is worth it. any hint of rust in the wrong places then forget it. money goes quick on just a few small issues....don't i know it :cry:

all good sports are gonna cost £7-10k....either you spend your money upfront or over the next couple of years. i think everyone accepts this, and this is fine but those who sell poor cars for top money catch out the naieve. i think this would need a zoner going over before we can know for sure...

poor ad though, not much info, no interior or engine bay pics, no scuttle, sunroof, arches pics....you cant sell a car this way! also anyone that calls their car "she" in adverts makes me suspicious as it reeks of trying too hard

My mate recently sold his red sport - yes was restored, paint job was very very good. Had 13 owners, interior was one of the best you'd see. Gearbox and engine were excellent. EVERYTHING WORKED - including light wipers lol.
The car needed a bit of work to battery box and new clutch. The owner before him had it for 10 years and garaged it all that time.
Guess what he sold it for a coupel of weeks back?
A touch over £5k. It needed a grand tops spent on it and honestly was one of the nicest sports I have seen in ages. The buyer knew his e30s and had been looking for a while.

The car had been advertised for 2 months and had 2 viewings. So that guy is really pushing the boat out for an auto!

see thats where "restored" and "resprayed" can be mixed,a re sprayed car is not a restored car, never restore a car to sell, always for yourself to keep, but 13 owners is a lot and if no under kit and under carpet and bulkhead pics etc etc to really fully varify a resto and its quality- will never fetch strong money

we all know lovely original never welded low owner spend a but more in the 1st place blah blah blah mythical cars barry speaks of are better....but its not like real nice want for nothing sports grow on trees, the better 5k type sports generaly need a fair bit of work if you really seek to find it, and evewry tech 1 will need a resto, its simply not like want for nothing sports come up for sale, maybe only the very rare odd one once a year maybe

Had almost a complete history. Honestly the car was stunning. Almost all MOTs and mileage matched up.

Car had kit off respray, no rust in usual areas. I know most cars are turds but there are some out there which are godo examples and can be bought for decent money but its rare.

almost mythical , in fact you NEVER EVER see a sport like it for sale with kit off carpet out ie fully backed up to prove, with a good thread on here etc, sort of cars for sale

id say if anything it was more total gamble- putting in A LOT of milage/viweings over say a year or 2, or getting lucky, and just seeing best you can - ie you see a whole range for sale over last 6 months say - 4k-12k advertised, none fully backed up, and you cant see floor and bulkhead and all the rest of it, to really determine if its never been welded or needed any , inner arch sealant etc etc, theres probably rust on 95% of the sports out there somewhere or other, so is just a case of getting lucky with one that as far as can e checked on the day/viewing, really turned out to be nice once stripped out - and knowing what i know know, really if anyone buys a sport-particulary for 5,6,7,8k - you really want to get it stripped out, so any issues can be found and addressed to protect the money youve just spent and for real peace of mind, its vital really , and there are probably loads even owned on here etc that owners think is mint but never had the carpets removed or a proper rust hunt, who knows what festers, probably a few and plenty of non sports too that people have never even waxoyled or carried out other measures to ensure some longetivity

If you know what you are looking at then its pretty obvious if a car is going to have issues or not so not every car needs "the kit off and carpets up" when viewing.

That kind of thing is needed when a car looks a bit scabby as once you dig, you might find more!

Nice original low mileage original unrestored cars have a look and feel about them that a restored car will never have and it's these cars (as rare as they are) that don't need that in depth rust hunt.

A look under the bonnet and under the car is enough for the trained eye.

i'm sure most wont either with the possible damage caused through tyre kickers armed with flathead screwdrivers and crowbars .

if i had a true minter "sport" i'd have the underskirt recent date stamped pics included ...now that's the kind of car i'd buy.

Can someone explain to me in general cars (not just e30s) the connection between cars that have had some welding work and rust ????
Do all cars that have had some welding lead to rust .... I am confused ?

Should the new metal not be welded in right, properly primed, seam sealer applied etc it will rust again
