Hi Glenn,

I see your going to put your engine into an E30 M3 shell, are you going to keep with LHD or covert to RHD ?

Reason I ask, is I am interested to learn how this might work out, but if you ever need inspiration to spur you on just visit -

www.matthes-racing.de/tuning/M3.html

This Car is awesome and so was the cost of building it, but after watching your E30 endavors, I'm sure you will get where they are at.

Regards,

The German Gorilla.

yes correct but the tourer is first then the v8.
v12 is for someone else so that'll be done first

i'm undecided at the moment gorilla, when i start the project ,then that will be the best time to do it obviously, and the manifolds i've allready done are for rhd. i've got a bit of time to decide yet.

Hi Glenn,

found almost all of the info needed on my project and all the parts I need. Just got myself 2 convertibles. A 325i M-tech from 1987 and a 1992 325i. My plans just got insane now. Going to sell the '87 convertible (after some cleaning and wax) and put a S52 engine in the '92 convertible...
I must be going slightly mad, but it gives me someting to do untill the summer, I guess.

Any Ideas for the bodywork?
The 2-door is going to be M-tech2 (1990 model with S62-engine, like yours) but I'm not quite sure yet what to do with the styling on the convertible.
Clear style, 18" , e39 M5 block and all Ground Zero sound is going to make my Dutch e30 Pound!!!

Thanks!

And I will...;-)

Right now I'm pretty busy finding out the original electric scheme and the new one...
I assume you know how tricky it is. It seems like there's a hundredthousand wires!
I just hope I know what I'm doing (and getting myself into...)...

To be continued!

why not procure (whats the smallest car?) a Yugo, and see if we can shoehorn the W16 VW Prototype engine into it (mid engined of course)

I bet that would go like sh*t off a shovel!

yes but where would you SIT?

I must say I dont understand the logic of this one... I thought the S50 idea was quite sensible hence why i tried to get it done, but having seen a cool supercharged S14 job, I think its MUCH better to go the forced induction route, i mean that way you can get 380BHP out of an S14 which is pretty much the same as the M5 V8 and it will still retain the original balance of the E30 M3 as it was designed to behave...

Not that im knocking the sheer Balls and effort you have gone to...

I just think in the end it has to be 10% good idea from a driving/performance point of view and 90% "wow for trying" kind of thing... but please dont everyone jump down my neck for saying that as i said i DO respect the effort, I just question the logic thats all...

But we all know which engine will be more reliable over the long run. And i'm not sticking up for turbo e30's here you may have guessed.

i dont really understand your logic, with this comment, when the difference between your engine and mine is less than 10kg.
also with yours being a straight six and mine a V8, the difference in weight being imposed on the front wheels may even be less than the weight difference between the engine's.

Don't get me wrong Glenn Im not making a criticism of your car that isnt equally true of mine in the end, having decided to do my conversion a full 6 years ago, by now Ive just changed my view thats all - i think a supercharged S14 is a better option than a bigger engine conversion thats all... as it allows the car to retain its original balance and handling...

Mind you of the two options, the S50 six or the V8 I think the V8 is JUST slightly the other side of the line in terms of practicality to be honest, Im amazed you can get the exhaust manifolds in there, do you need custom ones and I suppose ALOT of heatshielding cloth to stop them cooking the inner wings to a crisp no? Good luck to you mate, its certainly original and gonna sound amazing but i would think traction is gonna be a laugh, even with 255 rear tyres on 9.5 inch rims you will probably be able to light the rears up in 3rd and even 4th gear in the dry!!!

Did you have to do alot of work with the plumbing/cooling pipes to fit it all in there? If you got the motor for less than Ԛ£7k you have done well, i know someone (my old BMW mechanic in Peckam) who 2 months ago bought a salvage E39 M5 for Ԛ£1000.000!!!1 Unreal huh? Its just the shell and drivetrain really but what a steal huh? I dunno if hes broken it yet but was planning on that so if anyone wants to do the same conversion i could ask if he's still got the drivetrain...

Cheers

Yes all Rob is right , Andy from peckham bought a straight ,albeit non runner M5 , a lhd 2000 model with 50000 km for Ԛ£1000 !!!!, it has since been got running and served to a nice man for considerably more.I am fairly certain it is off to cyprus as a donor car to improve the power to weight ratio of a 520 !.

Trust Andy - I told him he could probably get 5-6 times that for the car!

So Pete how do you know Andy then?

Also why was there that comment earlier in this thread suggesting that another new member of the Zone was in fact you and should be banned?

Who have you annoyed and why ??? (or "done a Jayson" i.e chipped-UK Jayson...) :D

p.s you arent the Pete i spoke to earlier are you???

Yes Rob i am the Pete you spoke to earlier and who sold you the B7 turbo 5 years or so ago. I have Known Andy for years , we worked together about 15 years ago.
I found him a victim for The M5 , i think he got Ԛ£4000 for it, it had no trim or wheels and some minor panel damage but ran like a champ.
Jayson aka chipped uk , has many 'fans' and i presume the person you are on about is the one who appeared from nowhere and slagged him off. That was not me and is not my style, i tell it like it is warts and all, i don't need to hide. I don't know or have never had any dealings/ issues with Jayson so have no interest in slagging him off.On the other hand His alter ego tourert1 is a saddo and i am still waiting for the car he promised me ! :)
P.S the carpet i am sorting for you is not out of my Ԛ£70 'congestionmeister', that has been pressed into service as my new disposable turd and is collecting parking tickets at a pleasing rate ! :D

there's a wrecked one for sale currently. I think you'll find they probably want at least £12-15k for the engine and transmission. If not I'm gonna extend my overdraft right now 8)

and you thought the s62 electronics threw up some issues...

Hartge have put the V10 into the 3 series and have had major issues.. it does now work however only in 400bhp for the time bein iirc.. they've tuned it for 550+ in M-Power mode tho

They also put the S62 into the 1 series!!! Now thats a car i'd love to own
