I am now getting my touring on the road for the new year.
I have the m40 engine which is due a cam belt change. I will do it around feb but was wondering if there is a inspection area which is easy to get to so I can check its condition for peace of mind as il be driving on it for a month or so.
Do I have to take tge radiator out etc etc just to inspect it?
Also in my touring I have vents in the rear sections where the medic kit and that goes and the same the other side. These vents go out into tge bumpers? What are they for? As im fitting amps in this area I was wondering if I can seal them off to make sure the area is 100% water tight.
Cheers
rear vents in touring and m40 cam belt help?

Dont seal the air vents off. They will not leak water when raining or washing the car. Do you have a leak?

Vents are to allow stale air to exit the car.
Cambelt really should be swapped before you start using the car, from memory you just need to remove the ducting from around the radiator to access the front of the engine.

You need air to circulate around the cars interior, to help prevent condensation. Same way in which your house has air bricks.
If theres not leak then your fine, ive an amp in the offside compartment an the air vent helps keep it cooler.
The air vent also has rubber pipe with it that is the drain pipe from the rear of the sunroof tray if fitted.

You can take off the top cover on the front of the engine without having to drain water etc.
This will let you see the top half of the belt but not the tenshioner....you can look at the belt while manually turning over the engine at the crank with a 22 mm socket...pull the spark plugs out first and remove the distributor as well.

Also best to remove the fan and the fan shroud for better access, remember that the fan has a left-hand threadbenurminge wrote:Okay il have a look. Thanks
