Why would you want the engine to hunt at idle??

If you want a "lumpy" idle then fit a lumpy cam lol :-)
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.
getting oral sex off an ugly person is like rock climbing.....don't look down ;)

I have a knackered idle control valve, that will make your engine hunt, perished hoses, and broken TPSs here also. So we should be able to get your car running how you want. £30 each posted, so cheaper than lightening a fly.

Do we have a face palm emoticon?

Wow, and you were able to pass a driving test? 8O

Is the world getting thicker or do I just notice it more the older I get?

While lightening the flywheel to "make it lumpy" is just idiotic, you can take an M20 flywheel down to the 6kg mark before you risk it shattering and taking out your legs on its way through the transmission tunnel.

5.8 is about as far as most think is advisable. It won't effect the idle one bit on a stock M20.

A nica hairy cam like a 288/288 schrick will make it idle like sh!t

That is exactly what you said:

Simon13 is correct, the engine will idle just as good as with a lightened flywheel as it will with a standard one.

The quality of answer often reflects the question.

I actually lighten flywheels.

A lumpy idle means either the car is not running correctly, or it is a by product of the engine tune, usually the cam shaft, if the latter is the case. If you are looking at power, then the m20b25 is decent in standard tune, if its not the b25 or larger that you are rebuilding, then consider making it so.

Here you go, even a picture for you:

That one is not as light as you can go.
