Coolant from a leaking valve won't end up misting the screen, but a leaking matrix will.

They might well have, or the misting could be rain water coming in from the scuttle.

Ours , 318is did it tonight on the way back from Southampton on M3 ,man was it a pain! Lucky I had company to wipe the windscreen. It is her car so she got to wipe. Steaming up big time when driving fairly quickly then on North Circ it wasn't too bad. Carpet had been damp last week so maybe it is in the soundproofing. Hopefully, as she doesn't want to go down the matrix route again.

The year before last when we weren't getting any heat. Weirdly last week we just put 4litres of antifreeze in and bled it good and proper. You would think that the antifreeze smell would come with the steam if it was the matrix.

Try some K seal, about £10 from motor factors
We had a Hilux with a leaking Matrix, and 3 years on the cooling system is still OK and heater still working
Don't bother with other products, just the K seal which should sort the leak and save you ££ on matrix replacement which is a fortune on most cars

its water somewhere inside, floor, bulkhead, rear floor bungs, could be anything
i had it a little in my old 318is- when i had the windscreen changed, the bottom corners of the screen seal had little splits in the middle of the seal- would never of found/seen had the screen not been taken out, new seal, all was well
1st thing id check- is lift up the rear floor pan carpets feel right under, see if theres any damp/wet in the foam backing

Looks like the carpets were wet, from the door seal I guess. Gave the windows a good clean inside. All dried out now and no steam. Well just the usual amount.
Thanks

E30 carpets can hold several litres of water, and still be dry on the inside surface. Only way to dry it properly is to take it right out and hang it vertically by one corner, when the water will rapidly drain to the lower corner where it can be wrung out.
If it's wet, and you do take it out, you may as well give it a good session with a pressure washer before you dry it.
