is this ratio lsd available for e30 fitment if so what are they fitted to so i can try to source one .
or....
is it a case of swapping parts around from my 3.64 diff to make it fit/work
i'm fitting an e36 box for next season so i'm trying to keep the ratio/mpg as close to what i have as possible .
all useful input muchly appreciated

dont think you get a e30 with that ratio but you can swap parts to make it though

You cant fit a 2.93 CW/Pinion to a 3.64 LSD, different mountings. You would have to find a 2.93 LSD diff and swap the lot into the E30 case, or you can find that ratio LSD fitted to E28's in an E30 fit case

I know of a 2.93 LSD from a 325e that will be available if I can find him a 3.25 LSD. I have a 2.93 open diff from a e28 but as Dan said it won't swap over into your LSD.

Thinking about it...... A 3.15 might suit you needs a bit better anyway. I saw a dodgy seller trying to offload a torsen LSD in the for sale section

i don't really want a shorter ratio if it can be helped , i'd be into that 2.93 lsd though if it becomes available and the price is right .

Would the 3.64 lsd parts not fit in an e28 525e open 2.93 diff then which is e30 case size?

Not be much gain there,as I guess that the magpie is fitting a direct drive 5th gear 'box...
Easy option is to do without LSD!

Then an ex 525e diff will be an almost straight swap.

IMO a 3.15 suits the m52/328 box better, I had a 2.93 slipper on my e36 touring and acceleration felt a little dull to say the least. I swapped that over with a 3.15 LSD and it improved acceleration a little with no real difference in cruising rpm's or fuel economy. If your set on a 2.93 a e36 LSD might be the cheapest option if the guts could be swapped into an e30 case?

Z3 diff's are almost a straight swap, and some came with a Torson type LSD,are these available in 'usable' ratios?
Afterall,it's the same driveline that the magpie is looking at.

any experience of a 3.07 torson ? i think that's closer to e30 3.77 than e30 3.64 ?
all these numbers are giving me a headache

See my post a few above

But if Mick is set on a 2.93. They are harder to find in z3 form but 10 a penny from a e36.

The difference between a 3.07 and a 3.15 is not noticeable by driving the car.

According to the God of all things diff. related, otherwise known as 'Gareth', there's a complication when mixing 2.93 bits with bits from other ratios, in that the crown wheel is a different thickness from other ratios, and the bit it bolts to is similarly changed to compensate. Whether this affects replacing the diff. part iin an open diff. with a LSD unit, I've no idea.

BMW are good for compatibility but going for a 2.93 is a bit of a pain... to fit a 2.93 CW&P into a E30 case/spool will need a very accurate spacer making up, longer bolts and a lot of shimming. If you swap the spool (open or LSD) along with the ratio though, no spacer is required.
2.93 and below is one format, 3.07 above is another (E30 type).
The easiest way to get a decent 2.93 E30 LSD is to find a good low mileage E36 2.93 LSD and a rough E30 open diff case and rebuild one into the other. Not easy DIY stuff though but it'll mean all moving parts are half the age... a good thing as most E30 LSD's are now pretty much toasted.

That will be about the equivalent of half way between a 3.73 and 3.91 with the original overdrive 'box.

i'm using an e36 328i box which has a full 5th gear i'm sure ?
so i think it should work out between 3.73 and 3.64 in e30 terms
but i could be wrong
what do you think ?

E36 box has 1:1 fifth gear, same as E30 box fourth gear.
3.07/0.81 = 3.79
2.93/0.81 = 3.62
3.15/0.81 = 3.89
3.25/0.81 = 4.01
