Just removing this roof motor from my old cabby... what's the little black box??? Control unit for the roof, or just some kind of relay or something???
And how do it get the plug off??? Slides to one side but then it just feels like I'm gonna snap something off!!!

And any idea how I can test this motor???
Is it a simple 12v goes here and it works or not, or does it need to be tested in a car with the control box, etc???

I'm assuming this was the point of failure...

I am interested in this also. I've just bought a cab and think this motor is faulty on mine. Is it the motor on the right as you Look into the boot?
Also how did you disconnect it? I need to do the same
Sorry I can't help with your question.

Is it easy to remove? Are you going to keep the electric roof or are you going to convert to manual? I don't know what to do as mine is also broken.

Cabby is being/has been stripped!!!

Four T25 torx head screws and two 13mm nuts - under the horseshoe!!!

I'm guessing this is what mine would've needed, but it was converted to manual before I had it!!!

Hi mate, the black box is the controller unit. I don't think it's required to test whether the motor is working - just a power supply.

The cause of the failure is certainly due to the damage shown in your pic, but this can be fixed using a repair plate. These can be purchased from eBay uk and Germany.

Back to the controller unit, I don't know how that disconnects as I've never had to do it, but BMW always use a logical way of connecting/disconnecting things. Have another go.

Any ideas on how to test the motor???

Should it just whir into life when I touch 12v onto one of the terminals - and if so, which one???

I don't wanna put 12v to the wrong terminal and damage it!!!

I have just managed to open the horse shoe and look at the problems I'm having with the roof. Found that the 90 degree steel bar from this said motor has sheared at the nut. Not sure where this attaches to? Can you shed some light please. Sorry it doesn't answer your question.

Sheered at the motor side or the hood side (usually the hood side). It terminates in a ball joint type connector. Got a pic?

Yip, it sheared at the hood side. Also struggling to push the hood into the opening and then carnt close the the horse shoe. Having a roof nightmare ATM.

I think you'll find you have not only sheered the end connecting to the roof, but also damaged the motor connection too. Take the cover off the motor and have a look. It may be that you have altered the angle of the pin (the bit that has broken in the image and_1 posted).

That will be why you may be having the difficulty in closing the horseshoe.

So..... any idea where I put my 12v to test this motor???

Thought it would be a simple couple of connections - forwards and backwards??? But three connectors???

I can't advise on which connectors to test the motor, but can't you use a meter to find out?
