Afternoon all,
Just took the box of my 84' 323i to get at the flywheel, I was surprised when I took it off to find no lip on the back like the normal 260 flywheels?
Does this mean it doesn't require machining or have I got the the wont flywheel?

The bolt holes line up, except the little sleeve part on the m52 block.

Cheers, Ryan.

You have the early lighter flywheel, as its from an 84 car, and wont need machining
The washer plate should be gearbox side of the flywheel, under the bolts. Its there to spread the load from the bolts across the flywheel evenly
Make sure you either buy new bolts, or clean/degrease and threadlock the old bolts, there is also a specific torque setting for the bolts

You need to add the img tags to your links. Each link should look like this.... [img]put%20your%20link%20here[/img]
As for the flywheel, I think the 323i used a couple different flywheels, the changeover being mid (ish) '84. Ive no idea what the difference is though.

Excellent news, thats saved the £90-100 I was quoted by my local machine shop for lightening and balancing!
With regards to the spacer, when bolted to the M52, does this need to be gearbox side like when it was fitted to the M20?
Thanks again for all the replies, thats made my day, speeds things up a little.
