Morning,

Currently getting all the required parts together for a M52B28 swap. Because my car is a pre-facelift, will having this style of linkage be a hassle when it comes to bending it to fit (retaining 260 box)...

...or do I need to swap it over to the facelift version?

Cheers, Ryan.

Are you sure you have the older version? Last two years of pre facelift stuff used the later linkage.

It all depends what gearbox you are going to use, If you are retaining the same pre-facelift 260 gearbox then you must use the same linkage but modified for the lean.

You can't swap the shifter linkage between prefaclift and facelift, the mounting to the gearbox is completely different. As above, the Steel plate shifter mounts to 2 mounts bolted to the rear. The facelift clips into a tab at the top which only later gearboxes had.

You can however use the gearbox + linkage in facelift/prefacelift at the mounting points to the chassis are the same.

Checked earlier on and it is the pre-facelift unfortunately! Looks like its been leaking a fair bit too, probably due to the age of the seals because the mileage is pretty low (70k).

I'm going to have a rethink, because the metal plate looks like a right pain to modify for the lean.

Thanks for the info from everyone!

for gearboxes that use the old plate type shifter linkage, it is a bracket which bolts to the gearbox allowing you to use a normal more modern shift linkage

I'm an idiot at times, just been trawling through RealOEM and the guy in the link you put up has the part number on the page.

Just ordered one from BMW, didn't cost the earth at £8.13, just need to get a facelift shifter and make it fit.
