sorry I've had a look and cant find anything about this.
me and my gf both have 325i and I'm putting my engine in hers and its dead i was taking mine out earlier and it had a lambda, on my gf there wasn't none or what i though! i unplugged the lamb from mine and she has the plug it had a cap on it from bmw and was blanked off? does it need to be in or can i run the engine without it? the engine codes are exactly the same but is the number on the far right when it was bought?
any help would be much appreciated need to get it in a running preferably tomorrow!
cheers
jon

It will run without it, and probably better:

Very chivalrous of you to donate your engine to her car!

Usual cause of no running after a M20 swap is the fuel supply and return pipes connected the wrong way around.
M40 engines need a small wiring change if adapting to fitting or removing a lambda sensor, but the M20 ECU will simply adopt a default lambda signal level if the lambda sensor isn't connected.

hi just put the engine in yesterday and fired up it seems to be running a little bit lumpy? i changed the ecus over just so in my head i know its that edu for that engine would it be running bad because of the lambda? when you rev it and drive it it drives fine?

You are supposed to let it idle for at least 10 minutes to enable base idle settings to be learnt, then switch off, then take it for a drive throughout the rev range; this ensures full data transfer from EPROM to processor.
If you didn't, disconnect either batter or ECU for an hour or so to reset the ECU, then go through the initialisation procedure.
It may well take a day or two to fully bed in.
