Is that really necessary?

Seems like an unusual and unnecessary expense...

Why not just sand it back and spray paint it, unless it is crusty...

Or buy a new one if still available...

I had mine painted in 2k and baked but then mine wasn't very rusty.

Plus a fresh Atul sticker, job done.

I'd be painting it.

I'd imagine the heat of a powdercoating oven would kill the rubber diaphram.

well thats what i was wondering/unsure about, is there rubber inside the drum ?

my painter said he wasnt keen and to get it blasted and powdered, but if it cant be powerderd due to the heat, then i can get it blasted then just get him to spray it

need the metal (whatever its called) bit that the brake fluid reservoir fits in to , done aswell

like yourself barry- niceley re painted and an atul sticker, will make it look like new

if anyone has a reasonably nice one (and the metla bit) for sale not expensive, feel free to pm me a pic

mine wasnt very rusty as such, i gave it a fertan :) on the surface bits, and a hammerite, it looked ok, but in storage its had a little bit of brake fluid drain on it and bubbled it up , plus i want a proper job done, it needs blasting, but have some other bits i need to take to be done anyway

just wanted to know really if its suitable to powder coat

just sand off the rusty bits, get it nice and smooth and paint it with a good quality gloss black rattle can. lots of thin layers and a new sticker, cost peanuts

to be honest jim- a nice bead blasting for what would not even be £5, its worth paying that than the hasstle of sanding and getting hands dirty :) and also get a perfect starting base to paint for a better finish

£5 for the bead blasting of your servo... that's cheap, where do you get your parts done?

just a fella i know does blasting and powder coating, very reasonable prices and blasting goes by how long it takes, i dont take single bits just a box of bits at a time and hes never failed to impress, (you can see all the bits in my car thread)

It's worrying that someone who doesn't know what a master cylinder is is working on their brakes 8O :?

Well it sounds like you plan to remove the brake servo, brake master cylinder and brake fluid resevoir, so I would say that you're working on the brakes.

Mask up all the holes and get it blasted and then it will look great after a few coats from the sprayer guy.

I used a old sponge for the holes and mask up the threads.
