Hi all. Recently started cleaning the engine bay of my 316i. In the process the foam heat sheild started to soak up and basically fall apart (needed re- newing anyway)

Basically, has anyone got any information to where i can purchase new foam or is it recommended to buy a different material?

I had a look on Pelican Parts and they're asking $60 for the foam (No thanks!)

Any help? Would be much appreciated.

"heat shield" and "foam" sounds a bit odd. The heat shield is an aluminium sheet. The black rubbery stuff is sound deadening, which you can get from BMW.

alternative, which is what you are asking- is buy some sort of sheets of suitable foam material, in big enough size to cut to shape- 3 big pieces, probaby cost £20 , youl then have to mess around cutting it to perfect shape and straight- a total ball ache and no margin to mess it up

or just pay £40 , its only a few more burgers to flip :D

I have a brand new bonnet insulation set for sale. Not using it now as it'll probably catch fire 8O
