I changed my rear gearbox seal, yesterday, but when we removed the exhaust from the manifold, I found that one the down pipes was black and sooted up as expected, but the other one had a lot of white type deposits in it.
Is this normal? (I should have taken a photo but I forgot)

My car has been a pig to start for a long time, I was wondering if this sounds like a head gasket issue?
I have no over heating problems, no emulsification issues (oil and water mixing) and not really noticed water going down drastically?

I did a compression test on it when hot a couple of months ago, seemed fine, but I havenÔš't done it from cold yet?

Has anyone experienced this or can anyone shed any light on the matter?

Cheers
