Went to see an 1989 325 sport today
Has 168000 miles, plenty history. 6 months tax/mot. Good alloys and tyres.
The front wings had surface rot, bonnet and front bumper all need sprayed as they are not good at all. I called a printshop I've used before and a rough over the phone price was £600 to fix. The drivers bolster is worn through too. Boot is soaking wet and the aircon needs regassed
The rear arches, top mounts and slam panel are all solid.
Seller is asking £2750. With the repairs required I offered 2000 to 2200.
What do you think?

i think its worth the asking price so you get it for less its good money if that's all it needs.

they seem to be in the 4-5k range now and they keep going up in value.
the price you are paying usually gets a bit of a rotter tbh.

Sounds like once it was home and stripped - a lot more than 600 to sort it , potential full resto job it sounds like, floor and rear arch issues I bet

Rear arches were replaced in 2009. Couldn't find and floor issues. Sills were solid. Checked at front on passenger footwell. All suspension struts were sold. Scuttle was clean

Or the floor without the carpets out, boot full of water doesn't sound good either, and potential rear panel and koi issues, also adding lots of moisture and condensation to be getting right up to the inner arches where you can't see..

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

No I haven't bought the car.
The inner arches didn't have any holes and the battery tray was top notch. I presumed the water would be from a leaking boot seal. Thought they were well known for this?
I didn't buy the car. I did make an offer on it but it was refused by the seller

If a car is advertised as the air con just needing regassing, you can bet all the money in the world it doesn't just need regassing!Colinm101 wrote:Thanks. What's the thoughts on the ac then?
The £50 it would cost to regas, to be able to advertise the car with fully functioning air conditioning would be worth every penny several times over!
cheers,

Looks OK for the price, but being a Scottish car, try and look under the sill covers - they unclip quite easily at the bottom, and use a torch to inspect the sills.
I bought a £1500 1989 Tech 2 Sport, and it had gaping holes under the A-pillars.
That car had lived by the coast for the first few years of its life, Scarborough, IIRC. It also had rusty front wing bottoms, inner rear arches and even behind the rear number-plate!

Cheap Tech 2 Sports are usually cheap for a good reason! Either they are rotten, and/or have been caned to death and need every mechanical part replacing.

Ok. It drove well. Pulled well through the gears. No knocks, clunks etc.
It was just the price due to the work I wasn't happy at

Did you remove all boot carpet inc the side sections and the rear door cards and have a good look ?
The way the boot seal sits it doesn't easily let in water, I've seen a fair few e30s and not seem one with a duck pond boot via a leaking boot seal , sounds more like holes or rear panel or light seals, if its owned by an active zoner - then it doesn't bode well its not been sorted out , particularly if it was just a seal(s)

No I didn't get the door cards off.
The carpet was saturated though. I've had Impreza's that boot seals leak like a sieve so only presumed
It passed its last mot with no advisories, but could have been done by a mate....

Hi there guys this is my car thats getting talked about here
The boot was wet due to just having washed the car and
The air con does work just needs re charged
The sills are good and so are rear arches
Yes the car does need a lick of paint at the front
Had the car 5 years i no it in and out
Its my daily car so needs to be 100 percent
Plus its my only car so need to take kids and wife in it
So there no dodgy mots or that taken place in the 5 years ive had it
Its a genuine car and am a genuine selling
So either stop slating it or delete this post asap thanks
