Morning,
My heater is growling when I turn on the fan, turn it off and back on and some times it stops for a while, then starts again? Bumps in the road sometimes seem to start it growling too.
Heater still blows out but is terribly noisy. I'm presuming its a matrix issue, will it be a full swap out?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the fan itself is goosed, not the matrix. The bearings in the blower motor have probably gone, or possibly the brushes. New fan time.
Change it by removing the access panel in the engine bay.

Really? Not a dash out job then? Well that's good news of sorts! Thanks

Take off the access panel and its there, try running it with the access pannel off just to double check it. Could be something in it, leaves even.

Usually sorted by a simple motor out, clean, lubricate and replace.

Do check for foreign objects first - as mentioned could be leaves or as in my case a mouse nest!
