Smashed sump, now running strange
Moderator: martauto
My car being as low as it is decided to hit the sump off a suspect price of road put a huge hole in the sump. The engine moved that far back it crushed the PAS cooler pipe on the M3 steering rack.
Anyways, fitted a new sump and PAS pipe and sump guard. The problem is now it's running really strange engine vibrates slightly between 1000-1300rpm(clutch in or out) it stalls really easy at parking speeds. Like pulling up you're drive withought using the throttle. It also feels slightly under powered from what it normally feels like and a lot of throttle delay under 2500rpm. And finnaly it takes ages to start, although it always does.
Any idea on what this could be???
Thanks.

Damaged engine mounts, perhaps?
Check the engine to body earth strap is intact.

Engine mounts seem fine, the engine has returned the exact same location as before and can't see any signs of stress around the mounts. I'll check the earth in the morning.

There are, and the next step should be to hook the car up to a computer.rich318i wrote:many problems it can be
Symptoms you describe would fit a duff cam sensor, but that's not the only possibility, and difficult to associate with the sump incident.
I'll see about hooking in up to a computer, anyone have any idea where he diagnostics plug might be on the M52, I know DanThe did the wires for the guy who done the conversion before I bought it.
I also forgot to mention that the car sat for about 3.5 weeks without being turned over. I was kinda hoping that it was a blocked fuel system. Was going to change the spark plugs, fuel filter and put a cleaner through for the injectors. And see if I got anywhere with that. U think that's a waste of time??

Oh, and the exhaust pops just once on startup. Never heard that on any car at all before.
So really if it's a sensor issue it should show up on the computer for diagnostics eh??

Next question. Lol is the diagnostics port the circular one in the engine bay or should I be hoping that there is a rectangular port been wired in inside. Car was a 316 and now has a M52b28 engine if I haven't mentioned that before.

On a normal E30, yes, the diagnostic socket is the round one in the engine bay. However, your M52 one could be anywhere, assuming it's been fitted at all...

Not sure if you'll be able to here the engine clearly but it sounds/feels like a misfire when pulling away at very low Rpm's
Also exscuse the squeaky steering coloumn. Always seems to happen when it doesn't get driven for a long time.

That's the PAS pump. Not an imminent problem, just waiting on it failing and I'll swap it out. More concerned about the engine just now. Lol.
ya, got you PM, thanks. the problem turned out to be an earth strap.
been running a dream all week now! in love again! lol

Amazing how often this turns out to be the case with such issues, yet people will replace all manner of parts before checking such a simple thing!Check the engine to body earth strap is intact.
