Will stick it in the garage this weekend if these arrive on time :) been really rainy here so want this done asap :) thanks for the replies guys :)
yes !!!!

the fertan- is a rust treatment and prevention, put some in a squirty mist type spray bottle- and spray it as i said above in them rear arches inside, and inside bottoms of doors

sills- remove the top long black sill trim protector to reveal the holes, block up the dranage slits underneath, but be careful it can be removed, then pour and spray the fertan all in there as much as you can at all angles, just to get at any rust hidden in there etc, and pour down sunroof drainage holes too - you can put a tub underneath to catch and re use the fertan as it drains out-repeat,repeat

also you can pull off the plastic scuttle vents- spray it in there in the corners and runs is very beneficial in long term protecting

then , waxoyl all them areas a day or 2 later, should see the cars inner cnooks and crannies well protected

tbh every e30 should have this done for the sake of a few quid and a couple of hours work, very beneficial

Depends where you use the stuff; for the underside of wheel arches, etc., it's good stuff, giving a decent protective shield without going all hard and brittle like the underseals of old.

However, don't go plastering it all over visible parts such as inside the boot.

its really not,and shouldnt be used on an e30 or anything remotley half decent, is a pig to remove, and once it dries and starts to crack after a year or so it then holds moisture in-causing problems, its not decent stuff for a decent car, and inside the arches etc a proper selant should be used and a job done properly, not bodged with that sh!te

Not 100% water proof outside but inside it keeps the dust and damp off.
Got a link ? Is it nice and reasonably soft ?
Id be interested to know if its a soft lining or plastic?
Hard to describe really, it's like Tyvec (roofing felt) if that helps almost cotton soft, like a thick well washed polo shirt? You wouldn't polish with it but it doesn't feel harsh, just google Maypole car cover Medium

The C2 is getting laid up, not sure yet wether this will be at home or work as I plan a fair bit of work over the coming months. I am currently on the hunt for a winter run about turd.

I'd like something that is soft, just to protect it from dust. The road tax will run to December, so I hope the weather is nice enough to give mine one more run before it's garaged. :D

Any suggestions on the cover would be appreciated

Use a wire brush to clean away surface dirt and rust. A large flat-bladed screwdriver comes in handy for prodding away at loose underseal and nooks & crannies.

Some say it's better to leave a light coating of loose dust, rather than power wash it all clean, then spray or brush Waxoyl or similar on. Wear rubber gloves, as the stuff is very mucky, and sticky, and hard to wash off! You may also want to wear goggles, as you tend to get bits of gunge falling in your eyes otherwise.

I've been doing just that with my 1970 Minor Traveller this weekend. :)
Is this the waxoyl you use?

I don't want to use a stonechip gun to apply it, just going to go for the trusty brush method. I need to get a good coat on the underside before the cold gets here. Laying on a garage floor in the cold is never fun!

If I'm spraying it on, I use the clear Waxoyl, as the black stuff is *extremely* mucky and difficult to remove if you accidentally spray it on something you didn't want to!

What is more, the standard Waxoyl spray guns tend to fall apart under high pressure, so you often end up with it spraying out uncontrollably. 8O

However, if you're brushing it on mostly the underside, then the black underseal with Waxoyl is the stuff I use - a 2.5 litre tin of it lasts ages, and it's very easy to apply with a brush:

While Polsta may be critical of it, I find it works reasonably well, and my Minor has lasted 43 years with regular use of it - it's best to check it every couple of years and reapply as required.

I'll mask up the rear arches and the suspension first, and have some gun cleaner to hand just incase anything does get where I don't want it!

At one of my old jobs we done quite a lot of stonechipping, with Schutz. But Iv never had the chance to give Waxoyl ago. I'm just assuming its a similar process, so It shouldn't be to awkward.

Thanks for the tip though, just trying to get a few peoples opinions of the best stuff to use.

I agree with speedtouch brush it on spray it in the cavitys and then redo it every year or two and it will be fine

When I was buying my latest tin of Waxoyl underseal from Halfords, the cashier mentioned that his dad sprayed old engine oil over the underside of his Subaru, which was used on a farm, and he reckoned it had lasted pretty well.

Not a bad idea, a bit messy perhaps, then there's the issue that old engine oil contains acids which may cause damage to certain parts...

mate, you dont even know whats being said, that tin stuff you do not SPRAY/for cavities

cavity waxoyl, and tinned hammerite underseal with added waaxoyl, are completley different things for different uses.

As an apprentice I used to coat the undersides of all my old jalopies with old engine oil.

It certainly helped preserve them but got knows what it did for any motor cyclists following me.

Not that I noticed. Mind you the longest I kept a car around that time was 2 years so not really time to show anything at all.

Winter Prep? Gave mine a wash yesterday. It had done a 1200 mile Scotland trip and a further 400 miles commuting since I had last cleaned it so was a bit grimy to say the least. I then gave it a good polish with autoglym's products. Will be giving it its winter coat of Autoglym's HD wax at some point but sod's law meant it absolutely p!ssed it down as soon as I had the car looking presentable. :(

Other winter plans include a few minor bits of underseal to repair. I've got some of the brush on 3M stuff for this. Then when the temperatures drop a bit more the 14" Bottletops with Goodyear Ultragrip 8s will be going on.
