I would recommend Jenolite.

this !!

fertan/kurust isnt really a "rust remover" its more a converter and a preventor, rust in them areas needs to be properly removed and cut out like a cancer

Yes, with Jenolite, it's an acid - you brush it on, leave it for a few minutes, brush on another thin coat then wipe it off to leave clean metal.

My brother tried it on a bonnet that had some paint stripped off and been left out to rust for months; a quick once-over with the Jenolite and some wire wool brought it up shiny again! 8O

As above, with the Kurust and Fertan products, you are left with a bluish coating on the treated area.

Hamerite do a proper rust remover gel too which works quite well. Not as pod as jenolite, but its a lot less nasty if you accidentally splash it on yourself, your clothes or other bits of your car.

Really you should remove as much as possible, either with gels or physical removal, and then use kurust or similar to kill / slow down the spread of any tiny bits too small to see.
cheers,

harry

That's the stuff. Also available in most good motor factors, Halfords, etc.

Be very careful not to get any in your eyes - wear goggles, and gloves.

I have converted to Bilthamber products, they do what they say on the tin and I would never go back to any other product.

I have been using the bilt hamber stuff for years. Its good in the right areas. I have just derusted a motorcycle tank. Put some Deox-C in there left it for a few days, "Bang, and the rust is gone" :D

The gel is ok too, it all works, but it takes time. Sometimes a flap wheel on a grinder is the best tool for the job, there is more than one way............ as they say.
