What is ABS. Them things you get from the gym?

Is an early ABS system worth fitting?

Don't see why it won't as long as you've got the full kit. You'll need to change the master cylinder to an ABS one. I retro-fitted a kit on my cabby. You may need to drill holes in the cabin for the rear sensors.

But I want to know if there is any difference to fitting it to the chromie??
I have the front ABS legs, and rear trailing arms, but need to know about the wiring.

the feel and stopping power of a non abs e30 is superior except for the anti locking capability in my experience.

I've got a pre-facelift loom fitted in my convertible.
I'm sure DanThe has also retro-fitted ABS in his chromie.

It'll all fit in OK. No need to change the M/C - just blank off the spare port with a bleed nipple.
ABS should make no difference at all in feel or performance of the braking system until it's activated. When it is activated it can do what no driver, however expert, can do - apply maximum retardation when the car is not travelling in a straight line.

Easy job, especially if you have the loom that is separate to the main body loom.
Why do you want ABS on such a turd Rav? Are you going to be doing some winter driving?

This is what I was aiming at Rav. I meant early ABS in the sense, that shiz be old!

Could be Dan.
But I don't see why it shouldn't be fitted if I have the complete set up.

As Dan says, it's a separate loom that takes feeds from the accessories socket, plus a main power feed from the ABS pump that goes straight to the battery.
Note that there are two slightly different versions of ABS electrics found on E30s. Early ones use a silver "voltage protection relay" (clipped to the body colour painted metalwork above the glovebox), which also serves as an ignition switch controlled relay to turn the system on.
Later versions dispense with this relay and take the ignition switch controlled feed from the engine DME relay instead, so if you have the later version, this wire may need to be added.
Hardest job will be cutting the mounts for the ABS pump off of the donor and welding them to your shell.

I should have a DME relay installed, as the engine is an M30 E34 one.
So, should I use the Voltage protection relay, or the DME?
