Hi, Ive recently put in a 2.5 when i removed my 2.0. Im having problems getting a spark and i cant find the cause of it. I have checked the following
- Coil is getting power
- ECU is power
- Rotor Arm is getting power
- Cps Are good
- Fuel Pump
- Relays are all good
- Fuses are good
Im really starting to head but the wall now as i just want it started can anyone suggest what else it could be? ive searched all the threads but cant find anything.
Its a old style engine with the cps on the bell housing and the car is a 1989
any input would be great
thanks

Did you put the matching old flywheel on the engine?

did you 2.0 have the sensors in the gearbox? or 1 at the front of the engine?

Which ECU are you using - the 073? Was the 2.5 engine running OK with it prior to the conversion?

thats your prob the early flywheel had extra bits to trigger the sensors on the bell housing the later flywheels dont have this bit,

What do you mean by "Rotor arm is getting power"?
It takes it's power from the ignition coil main HT lead, so if that's working, it should be distributing it to the spark plugs as the rotor arm turns...

Been at it again today but still had no luck. I found I did have the wrong flywheel on it so I changed that to the correct one. I'm still not getting no spark or fuel. The coil is getting power. I have read that on pin 18 it has to have power yet my wiring loom connection for the ecu doesn't have a wire in slot 18?

Have you got the gear box sensors connected the right way round?

Ok, I've now got spark and the fuel pump turns on, this was due the the 3 wire pig tail comming of the Ecuador so I've wired that up and all that now works. but it still won't fire up, any ideas? It does have some kind of alarm system but it never had an immobiliser and I haven't touched any of that since since the 2.0 was working ok in it

Got enough fuel in the tank? Try spraying some brake or carb cleaner down the throttle body intake while cranking it over.
