Sounds like a good project, as has been said, first job, get the screw driver and see how much metal is left before bothering to go further.
Expect some rust, but don't the let the doom mongers on here tell you to scrap just because of a bit of rust, get it P40'd---sorry welded up and crack on with it.
Many cars on here have had some major resto's, yes it costs money, but a bit at time and you'll get there.
Says me, my Tourings taken 3 years so far for me to get halfway through fitting sub frame bushes. Its should be back on the road in time for my funeral hopefully
:D
Good luck with it anyway and enjoy it :D

find the links on image shack that start with http... and end with .jpg

Paste them here, and put at the end (without the spaces).

It's that simple.

And rust isn't that bad depending where it is - you just need to know it's there so that it can be fixed. If you need motivation, click the "resto" link in my sig.

Already been said, but until you assess the rot, put any plans for rims & lowering on hold.
Also think about giving it a good service. It will drive so much better for it.
By the way the wheels are 17" Azev As', although back on the 15"BBS for the winter.

Hi guys, sorry no pics yet but i will defo sort it by weekend.
Ive been under the car and checked all the usual rust areas which the zone suggested i look, and the only rust is both sides on the corner of the floor, surface rust in rear quarter panel but most of the rust there was on the tools i found in there!! also a bit of surface rust in a thin line under the battery :D :D :D I cannot get the sunroof open?? fuse blown changed it, what next???????

Anyway guys ive gone ahead and fitted the timing kit, the engine turned freely with the plugs out.
After fitting the kit i tried to start the beast but no fuel was arriving and after a few test i found the fuel pump was F****D.
I carried on and after messing around with seats and carpet i got to the pump/sender, once i got the pump out! OMFG what a mess 15years of stagnant fuel has made.
The fuel looked more like black coffee, and that was with my £7.15 of the fresh stuff on top, i have taken pics which may be useful??
I am bidding on a full unit on ebay at the min as the unit is corroded and i will buy a new pump later when car is up and running properly :?: , i will be replacing fuel lines too, can any1 tell me if i can use plastic lines now and where can i source them?? i am going to check out the tank with my borescope to see if it needs changing. the car has only done 64,000 shall i go ahead and restore?? what may lie beneath the sunroof???

Unless you find somthing nasty lurking underneith, it sounds like you have made your mind up really :D Get it to running condition and on the road - you are probably enjoying the process, and they are easy cars to work on.

As for "restoration" thats a decision for later on when its running. You may decide to keep it as a scruffy daily driver thats mechanically sound or you may wat to go the whole hog and lower it and drop an M70 in it  Who knows.

Most of the things you have mentioned, fuel tank, fuel pump etc are easy (comparatively) bolt on replacement parts jobs. Just make sure that the welding of the shell can be done properly/neatly without making you go bankrupt!

As for the sunroof, check out the wiki and then go from there. It may be fooked, but again its just a bolt on a new motor job (even if it is a fiddly one!)
