Hey All
After much trouble with BMW, I have got another time delay relay to replace my other water damaged one. Unfortunately this one also only has 5 pins and not the sixth one that grounds with the door switch, like the broken relay had.
BMW said that they can now do a conversion that makes the system work of the door open contacts and not the switch in the door handle. Unfortunately they want to charge me a small fortune to do this.
I remember that Smithy318i has sold a lot of his own time delay relays with instructions on how to make the delay work from the door contact, so you must be able to do it. Can anyone explain which 2 wires need to be swopped to make this a reality on my car.
All the lights do now are stay on all the time and don't go off when the door is closed. My car must have been fitted with this delay as it was a broken one that I removed!
Any thoughts on how to do this converion would be great.
Many Thanks
BeemaBoy

Fitting instructions
You may also need to connect the TG and TK together with a scotch lock (thats the Brown/yellow and Brown/green wires)

Hey Guys
I now have a new problem in that I cannot engage my alarm system until the time delay has expired and the lights go off, otherwise the alarm system thinks that the door is still open.
Funnily enough, the alarm has been wired up so that the brown/yellow wire and the brown\blue wires were soldered together. I had to seperate them for the time delay relay to work.
The alarm arms ok but it is annoying having to wait for the lights to go out before I can engage the alarm and walk away.
Calling Smithy318i, any ideas on the latest problem, as you seem to have serous knowledge on the matter
Thanks

If your car has electric windows, then the front door pillar switches will have two seperate switches in them, one for the windows and one for the lights.
You could try connecting the alarm to the window part of the switch instead, although non of this should really be happening.
Sounds like your alarm wiring may not be quite like it should be.
