Just got a quote from Bell.com for an iS.
Me = 21, professional, driving 1.5 years, 3 points (but 6 within 5 years), one accident. Living in TF1 2EU.
Quote - Ԛ£980.
I thought I'd see what it costs to add Mrs. Dazzle...
Mrs. Dazzle = 20, student, driving 1 year, no points or accidents. At the very least I was expecting a Ԛ£10 admin charge or something. Quote comes out at Ԛ£897!
WTF?!?!

Well I'm not actually from Telford!
Just seeing how much it would be to insure a car there vs. other places. Might be moving there, fingers crossed, so I was doing me homework.
Incidently, what's Telford like? Which bits should I look at to live in? I.e., where's nice?

Avoid the top end of Telford, places like Woodside, Brookside, Randley, Stirchley........and Avoid Overdale, Dothill and Dawley!
Basically the whole of Telford!
the insurance company must see her as less likely to have an accident due to her lack of penalty points and testiclesMrDazzle wrote:Just got a quote from Bell.com for an iS.

adding a partner or spouse can often take it down as you simply appear a more responsible person, less likely to be hooning around with a car full of mates.
my premium dropped over Ԛ£100 when i got married - see there's a reason to get wed
children can have a bizarre effect too, in some cases make it cheaper because again you're more likely to be careful transporting your offspring, but on the other hand, some insurers factor in the distraction theory that screaming brats on the back seat having a tantrum may have you looking at them and not the stationary vehicle in front!
with insurance ratings it goes much beyond the simple age, make & model of vehicle etc as commonly the damage you do to third party property will often exceed the value of an E30, so it's not just the replacement cost of your own vehicle.

The amount of cars at your address brings it down as well, this i got told by an insurace person on the phone. Its to do with the fact that there are more cars in the household so they look on it as a good thing cause you might not be using your car all the time.
Like me i use the Mrs all the time as its a company car and she's got a fuel card. I only use mine to go to and from work and go out if she is already out.
I would add the mrs to mine as she is older than me but shes got 6 points for speeding in my case it goes up lol
Direct line are doing a thing now if your a named driver on a policy they will count that as NCB for you as well.
So in my case ive been on my mums policy for a year so i can get a years NCB from them as well. They also do discounts for a second car if you have a policy with them already and they take your NCB into concideration on both policies if you decide to take two out with them.

Funny how I've been told the exact opposite by a so called insurance person... they told me the fact that you can only drive one car at a time (That be shocked me...) that there was a higher risk of the remaining vehicles at home being stolen! what a cack of sh!t. I live in a good area where i know of only 1 car ever being broken into in the six years i live here, but as far as the insurers are concerned they would prefer if i went and parked my car in some seedy part of Bournemouth, as it's less likely to get nicked....t11mfn wrote:The amount of cars at your address brings it down as well, this i got told by an insurace person on the phone. Adding my g/f to my BMW insurance made no difference on premium, adding her to my van policy more than doubled the premium, hence why she isn't insured to drive my van, i don't think she minds somehow.
Adding her to my MG policy brought the premium down Ԛ£2 !!!
It's a lottery, I'm due to re-new my van & BMW insurance very soon, no doubt i'll be
1 & 2 bed flats in Bournemouth areas, with parking

insurance works in some wierd and wonderful ways sometimes. Insurance companies basically put everything into their risk assessing software, this is a massive database that factors all sorts of circumstances from their claims experience plus known factors like cost of parts, labour rates, vehicle rating etc etc.
Some things are really wierd though, such as the colour of your vehicle. Daft as it sounds, some vehicles are statistically more likely to be involved in an accident due to their colour, not 100% on this but i'm sure a red vehicle is considered a greater risk than another colour. Something to do with how observant other people are with a red car. Don't ask!
At one point in the early 90's it was cheaper to insure a cossie if you parked it on the street rather than in a garage. This was because when it was nicely tucked away in your garage, you were giving the thieving scum a safety blanket away from sight allowing them to pull the dash to bits and try to bypass the alarm system etc.
